Has anyone any ideas how my sugar level reading was 3.1 when I'm not on any medication. Just back from a weekend away for my daughters hen party, on Friday I was drinking vodka and Diet Coke my first time drinking alcohol since I was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes on December 2016. I am really confused although I know alcohol can make your levels go low I thought this wouldn't happen if I'm diet control only

Alcohol makes your liver busy removing toxins from your body rather than producing glucose. You can still go this low without meds.

Ok thank you for info was just a bit confused and worried now knowing you can still go low even if your not on meds will deffo watch from now on, think I might just give up on alcohol in the future don't drink much anyway but it wasn't the day after I went low it was the following morning after that. I was reading 6.4 before breakfast then 3.1 an hour later thought it very strange

Well it's quite possible and not dangerous for non-diabetics to see BGs in the threes - usually either during or after exercise.

If you aren't on any BG lowering medication - I wouldn't worry too much about it - but if you feel odd at the same time - treat it like a 'mini hypo' and just have a little bit of something sweet - eg a cuppa and treat yourself to a spoon of sugar in it LOL (though I'd spit it out now cos it tastes vile to me in drinks) or ONE smallish biscuit, ONE normal sweet etc.

Thank you that makes sense as I never felt any different only checked my levels as I just had breakfast an hour earlier I panicked a little and think I had to much cola and a choc biscuit I then went up to 14.3 but went down again quite quickly as I say it was first time having alcohol since November so just got worried a bit thanks again
