Need some advice please.
just tested BS 2 hours after meal (8.30) it was 11.4, I’m not on meds as not been diagnosed yet, I’m waiting for blood tests.
I bought a monitor today to keep a check, I’m new to all this, now wondering, should I not eat now, until breakfast ?

Thanks… it’s a long time until breakfast !
You’ll spend most of the time between now and breakfast asleep so you’ll be fine. If you’re too hungry to sleep have something small? Eating late at night can affect quality of sleep and it’s good for your body to get a break from digesting food overnight.

Thanks. I’m finding all this quite confusing and being a worry wort certainly doesn’t help…I think I’ll be on here a lot….. :-(

What did you have for your dinner as 11 is pretty high. To get some useful information you need to test before you eat and then after 2 hours.
You could have something to drink to help reduce your blood glucose.
But other than a drink many people wouldn't eat anything after dinner until breakfast.

I tested at 5.15 it was 4.8, had a McD spicy chicken burger and few chips at 6.30, tested 11.4 at 8.30 that’s it…….

I have read drinking water helps bring it down, I have been drinking, I won’t eat until breakfast

High carbs in the bun, high carbs in the chips & possibly the coating on the chicken too. Was there a carby drink with that also?

Your pre dinner reading was in the range you would expect 4-7mmol/l before meals but the fact that it had gone up and was still high at 11mmol/l 2 hours after you ate suggests that your meal was far to carb heavy, the bun and the chips are pretty high carbs. You would only want an increase of no more than 2-3mmol/l from before you eat to 2 hours after.
You say you didn't eat much but that sounds like quite a substantial meal.

Probably over 50g of carbs there. Being at 11.4 after 2 hours is quite high.
4.8 pre-meal is good though.
Did you test again at the 3 hour mark?

@Scousemouse did you double-check the high reading.
It is possible that you had something on your finger which affected the reading.
The usual advice is to retest if the reading does not meet your expectation.

Yes, good point - I recently did a test after eating and saw a ten, which was a shock. However, I'd been handling orange segments, and after a quick wash got a reading in the low 5s. It really can make a difference.

It was a complete one off…..but now I know not to indulge again, no drink with it, just water since last tested

No, I didn’t, I’ll test again later before sleep

No I didn’t, like I’ve mentioned all this is new to me, but I appreciate all the advice I’m being given, I’ll test again before sleep 🙂

McDonald's spicy chicken burger is 46g carbs, not sure how many chips you had but a small portion is 29g carbs and medium 42g. I still have McDonald's occasionally, but I will either just have a burger or have a salad plus the current breaded cheese thing, to keep the carbs down.

But I wouldn't worry about it too much more today, what's done is done.
