Relationship to Diabetes
Type 1
Evening all,
As a type 1 for 35 years I have come to notice that If I have any unusually long days, yesterday at a concert for 14 hours the following day I am totally exhausted and need to sleep sleep sleep, i drink water whilst out and my blood sugars maybe a but higher but nothing to cause concern about, does this happen to anyone else if so can you please give me advice.
Thank you x

Welcome to the forum, NicolaB68. I'm not a concert goer, but I'd be tired if I spent 14 hours at a concert yesterday, whether I was playing or watching. Presumably, there was travel time in addition? Hope you enjoyed the day. What was the concert?

Welcome to Nicola.

Thank you all for the welcomes.
It was an 80s festival its travelling around the country it was great fun. I forgot to mention that any days out of the ordinary really tire me out. I am guessing because I am overweight, unfit and a diabetic x

Being diabetic shouldn't make any difference, being over weight and unfit doesn't help though 🙂 Oh and the very small matter of 14 hours of concert obviously had nothing to do with being shattered 😱😛:D
If you haven't done so perhaps have your thyroid levels checked by your GP.

Very pleased you enjoyed the concert though

Small steps, more steps - you'll get there. One good way of measuring progress is parkrun - free timed events on Saturdays at 9am in England and Wales, 9.30am in Scotland and Northern Ireland. If you look today on www.parkrun.org.uk for your nearest / most convenient parkrun, you can register instantly and print out 6 bar codes on one sheet of paper, then cut out and cover in plastic ready for Saturday.

Thank you for that, unfortunately the nearest run is 15 miles away from me, I'm scared to run as I have prolific retinopathy and am registered sight impaired in my left eye. Walking would be a good start as that is painful at the moment.

I don't find it at all odd you are feeling tired after 14 hour days bearing in mind a) you say you are overweight and b) even if there's nothing wrong with your thyroid - you ARE knocking 50 gel, so if you haven't looked after your body and fitness - what do you expect? LOL

Sorry if that's a bit blunt - but you came here for help so I'm just being truthful. Do get exercising - but do it every day and as you say start gently and work up. If you can walk 'purposefully' for at least half an hour a day that's far more use to you and your longevity than any amount of concerts. Standing about is far more tiring than walking somewhere. And if you happen to have been sitting that's FAR worse still.

Walkers and joggers are as welcome as runners. Plus, many parkruns can provide guides for people with sight problems. Of course, it depends on being able to get there, but there might be people driving from near your home.

Nicola...why not start with making yourself more active around the house...how I started...then build up to walking...or whatever else you can manage...good for you...out yesterday...had fun...long day...but sounds like you had a fabulous time...just do things at your own pace...you'll get there...once you get started that is:D:D:D...good luck.

When me and my mate from school (same age as one another, first met aged 7) were roughly YOUR age Nicola, she was telling me one day how the chemo from her breast cancer had knocked her body about, generally - even though she'd long finished it and the things like the nausea, the hair loss and the utter wiped-out response that most bodies have were a distant memory.

Oooer said I - that's not good - how do you mean? Well, replied she. Things like - you know when you've eg knelt down cos something's rolled under the settee, or to dust the skirting board, whatever - well - I can't just get straight up again - I have to eg put my hand on a chair seat or lean on something else - and literally heave myself up again. That sort of thing! I burst out laughing. That's nob all to do with having cancer, you daft bugger - I haven't had it - and I've had to do that for years now!

I'm not saying she liked me for saying it, but that only lasted 5 minutes. And her mother (AKA my second mother) - thought it was hilarious - especially since it wasn't her own daughter that told her!

14 hours! I have to have a kip after being up 7 hours! 😱

Now there's an idea Nicola, can you come do my housework after you have done yours lol.

Glad you enjoyed the concert Nicola. What bands were on as the 80's/90's was my musical era as well. Or was it more like 'featuring the bassist from Kajagoogoo'. :D It's quite a while since I've done any festivals/all day concerts but I always found it tiring - usually a long trip with early start and then standing around all day in the heat watching the bands and then trudging often across fields and the journey home . Doesn't sound terribly tiring but I always felt knackered the next day. Don't think the diabetes had much to do with it.

It was brilliant,

Chesney Hawks
Captain Sensible
Tony Hadley
Howard Jones
Belinda Carlisle
Go West
Jackie Graham
Boney M
Bananarama
I'm sure there was more - they all looked so blooming old ( well apart from the Ladies) x
