complaint today

today has been hard at work, i had a hypo..and had to drink coke in the room and look after the children no body supported me or helped me so tonight i had the guts to complain to my manager..

It does make me wonder how the other staff members would treat a young child at the nursery with diabetes. 😱

Its so hard cuz I dont want to make a big fuss because in the summer when it was hot I had a hypo a few times in a week and i got pulled in the office for a supervisory and had to write down my bloodtest on a chart for them like every hour

Erm Claire they can't do that. It's discrimination and bullying at it's worst.

That sounds unreasonable to me They are harassing you because you have diabetes. It sounds to me like they don't understand both what your problems can be, or where they stand in relation to the law. I don't know, but I wonder if Diabetes UK's Careline service can help?

I can't imagine they have a clue what your blood sugar tests really mean!

I don't know anything regarding legislation but I am really angry you were made to do this. What a complete invasion on your privacy and dignity 😡

If under pressure to carry on working when you're hypo you should point out that you're not allowed to drive in that state so should you really be looking after children?

Claire so sorry you had to go through that hypo with no support from anywhere, I wish all bosses where like mine understanding and sympathetic to diabetes, you did the right thing putting a complaint in hun hope your manager goes further with this and has "words"

all my manager said was..."You will be covered in future"
The trouble is working at a nursery i have to be careful how i word things cuz they could then turn around and be like... "Welll aree you in a fit state to look after children?"

I think you have been put in a terrible position. I have never been anywahere where just one person is left looking after a class of young children. Glad you talked to your manager and do talk to diabetes UK care line for more help and support.
