I need some advice - my diabetic team will not call me even though I have asked 3 times to help me

I am due to have colonoscopy Saturday and surgeon wants to sedate me - but completely knock me out - procedure is 3 o’clock in afternoon - how do I do this ? They haven’t got a clue. Do I need to have sliding scale and do I need to still have all insulin. I can’t eat anything for 24 hrs but can have sweet drinks. Any help would be appreciated

Sorry the colonoscopy peeps aren’t able to give you clear guidance @Lindiloo

Are you on MDI or a pump? Do you wear a CGM or sensor?

If you can’tit it sounds like you’d only need basal coverage?

Do you know how sedated you are likely to be? Would you be able to self-treat a low BG alert?

There are other threads and posts that mention colonoscopy here, in case they help?

No pump - I was suppose to be fully sedated but I do t think that can happen tbh. - I think I’ve hit a brick wall with my diabetes - I do everything that I should and I’m so conscious of being well
Maintained and I just can’t seem to control it. Now over last 4 nights my levels are rising when I wake up (I know they do but mine are going up to 15 and I’m injecting rapid and not being able to eat anything until lunch time. - Thank god I’m doing the DAFNA course next week

I’m literally completely broken by this and so bloody scared of having constant highs - I just don’t know why. Sorry to sound so childish but I’m honestly at a loss.

So sorry to hear how you are feeling @Lindiloo

Hopefully DAFNE will give you a solid framework of practical approaches that will help you to bring things back into line again <3

Sounds like you need more basal if you are going up overnight. What basal are you on? Do you not feel confident in adjusting your insulin doses?

Sounds like you may be quite recently diagnosed, if you haven't done dafne yet. Dafne will probably help a lot.

Hi @Lindyloo21 sorry to hear you are having such a rough time. The stress of worrying about the procedure together with the lack of support from your diabetes team is probably contributing to your high BG levels.
Hopefully another knowledgeable T1 on the forum can give you some useful suggestions.
I think you will feel much better after the colonoscopy is over and done. It is a fairly common procedure. You are not at all childish. Please continue to post on the forum to vent if you need to. There is a lot of empathy and support from people in the forum as well as information.
Hope the DAFNE course helps you.
Take care x

Thankyou. Levels been high all day - I’m sure it’s stress. My mum been very unwell just found out today she has osteoporosis and a fractured back . - But fingers crossed after DAFNE I will be back in the game hopefully. Just feeling sorry for myself

I am confident but I have changed all insulin pens and will try more over night.

I was diagnosed 4 years ago - I’ve always found it quite easy to control but had gallbladder out a year ago and seems since that I can’t control things. - but yes DAFNE hopefully will help me - I can’t stand being so out of range. It scares me so much

Do you mind me asking why you’re having a general anaesthetic for a colonoscopy? I’ve had a few and didn’t even have sedation. You will be home a lot quicker without a GA.

You will definitely need to manage your BG levels well with the prep drink as this (from memory) is really syrupy. It was the one and only time my BG levels went into the 20’s.

The procedure itself is nothing to worry about and is over before you know it.

It was just what surgeon said. I’ve never had one before but after seeing a few reviews I’m not going to have it - I’m high due to stress I think Thanks for your reply xxxx

I had one no food for 36 hours and medicine to clear my bowl.I had a sedative during the snake up my butt.I didn’t get a general aesthetic they told how much to reduce my insulin. They should do for you as well just ask them if they don’t.They also told me how I should stop my blood thinners as well. There was a suspicion that I may have bowel cancer but luckily didn’t have it.

I had no food for the couple days before as advised, and no sedation. I didn’t change anything about my diabetes management just took my basal as normal and didn’t bolus as wasn’t eating carbs. I was hypo when I arrived for the procedure so had some carbs then, you can still have sugary clear fluids
