Relationship to Diabetes
Type 2
New to the forum/diabetes UK but type 2 for the last 20 years. I've lost 5 stone in the last 11 months (18.0 to 12.12 and still losing) and for the first time I'm suffering from cold hands. Is this due to the weight loss. Any help appreciated.

Well it could be purely that, as a person who has never ever been more than slightly overweight, I've never ever in my life had hands that were warm this weather. Mid summer, yes. Mid winter, no. Diabetes never changed it, why would it, how could it?

Welcome to the forum @Archiethegrim

Congratulations on your great weight loss - was that something you were aiming for?

Sorry to hear about your chilly fingers though. Do you usually get your circulation checked as part of your annual checkups?

Keeping your hands moving might help a little, as would keeping moving and your heart rate going I guess, though it’s not always easy.

My hands are always noticeably colder when i am sat still in the rooms in the north side of the house.

Type 2 can be put in remission. If the tablets (metformin) strength is not adjusted this, I've been told, may be a cause. I do not suffer with cold feet, neither did I with my hands

Thanks for your reply. The weight loss is something I was looking it but it sort of became addictive and along with Covid19 and the restrictions it has placed on us I have lost more than I initially was looking it. I am now aiming for a further stone which will put my BMI in a "normal" range.

Currently I do not have circulation checked other than for testing the sensation on the feet so I will discuss on my next review due in January

Good luck with the continued weight loss, and i hope your pulses are still strong when they are checked at your review 🙂
