Cold feet

I am pretty fed up with having cold feet all the time now I have the dreaded D . I used to wear sandals from about April to September but my feet are now cold even in very hot weather in trainers does everyone suffer like this?

Yes. But I'm not sure it's D-related for me (pulses have always been good). My dad has always had cold feet and I just assumed I was following in his (cold) footsteps

It can be a complication - poor circulation, I presume your GP/DSN checks your feet for sensation and pulse. Diabetics are advised to wear shoes/slippers at all times to avoid foot damage as our feet can take a long time to heal. I had poor foot circulation before I was diagnosed, the hairs on the ankles disappear gradually and now start half way up my leg (probably not a thing a lady would notice of course). I've also developed hard/cracked heals and get pains in the heals. The good news is my feet don't sweat any more so socks last longer and my shoes don't smell, not even trainers

My feet mainly feel cold in bed, but since diagnosis I have found it very hard to get sandals that are as comfortable as my shoes.

Have you tried Urea cream on yer tootsies Vic? - it's expensive but soooooo worth it. The bottoms of my feet are like a baby's. (bottom LOL)

I just got back from the podiatrist (referred by my GP at my request) and got my GP to give my Flexitol on prescription, so free I have to file the heels as well. Still it means I have to wear socks at night because of the cream so my feet stay warm

I suffer the dreaded cold feet..

But it's not diabetic related at all Just me, something I suffered with before diabetes, and not a circulation problem either this has always been A1.

But you know what they say about cold feet!

How long did you wait for the podiatrist appt Vic? I asked for a visit a while ago now , but no response as yet .

I can sympathise with this. I have no damage to my feet, but they are like blocks of ice at night, then on fire during the day!

Because my pulses & nerves are fine my podiatrist said it's nothing to worry about (apparently women tend to have colder feet than men anyway). In my case, I suffer from mild macrovascular disease which adds to the problem of temperature regulation in my feet.

I'd still get it checked out, though - if you've heard nothing about an appointment pester, pester, pester!

Hi there,
I was referred by my GP and the nurse to a podiatrist on 27th April but I haven't heard anything yet. Mind you that is only 7 weeks so I guess I have a little wait yet. I'm in Lincolnshire.😱

Still hope then, it was about April 12th when I sent a form in requesting an appt.

The sensitivity tests were all ok it is just that my feet feel as though they have plasters on all the time and now my feet are cold. I can put up with it to be honest, just a bit of a nuisance !

only last night i was lay on the sofa with 2 pairs of socks and a duvet over me as tooties were frozen, finger ends are the same too.

I have cold feet too, it can be 28/82 degrees outside, but me feet are cold.

Ive had cold feet recently. Mainly due to the weather resembling mid-winter since the beginning of May ! 🙄

Sadly, diabetes has very few related positives other than an improved diet and regular healthchecks. Oh, and the free prescriptions !🙂

Hi Ann - I was just thinking how cold my feet where, and when I got here what was the first thing I saw....

I have always had a tendency for cold feet and hands - predates by diabetes. Strangely I never had problems with cold extremities when I took anti-ds. I don't know if that is a rare side-effect.

Socks at night can help - sorry that I can't be of more assistance.

I was wearing socks at night in the winter but manage without at the moment, a good massage before settling helps !

As a life long asthmatic paying for prescriptions for over 40 years there is some irony in the fact that I get D after getting to the free prescriptions for old age scenario!!
