Hey all,
I appear to have some sort of cold or flu at the moment.
I am feeling stupidly rough - does it just hit us lot harder than a non diabetic?
Thanks 🙂

I don't think it hits us any harder, and we are no more likely to get things than a non diabetic, but it takes us longer to get over them.

I hope you feel better soon. I find lots of warm sugar free drinks help my throat and chest, but if you want anything a bit stronger the pharmacist will be abe to guide you.

Hi. 🙂 I remember on Dafne being told if your blood sugar levels are ten+ it's harder for your body to fight bugs etc - not sure the why's etc but it seems sensible to try to keep things steady even when poorly. Hope you're feeling a lot better soon - do you have a copy of 'sick day rules' to follow? Might be worth a call to your dsn if not. Take care,
Twitchy x

Never heard of sick day rules, thanks! Levels are being quite a pain and refusing to come down so that won't help :(

Check for ketones regularly? This is where sick day rules apply, even though your unaware of them......:D

Sick day rules give you some guidance about how to react to whatever degree of ketones you have, and how to adjust your insulin doses - but it was a while since I was on MDI so I don't want to mislead you! Definitely worth a quick phone call to the nurse for some advice! 🙂 (& keep glugging those sugar free drinks!) Hope you're feeling good again soon! x

Yep on the ball with the ketones. Had DKA 4 times in the past!!

By on the ball do you mean if you spot them you can comfortably deal with them.........?....😉

DKA sounds nasty, I am sure I have had it before in the past though after a few days without insulin...........😱

Yeah now I know a bit more about ketones I can pretty much sort it before it gets out of hand now!

Agh a few days without insulin? Not good! x

How are you doing,Catharine? Hope you're feeling better. 🙂
