Hi everyone, am a recent prediabetic looking for info, I enjoy White Coffee, Ryvita Thins Crackers and Grapes, since i was diagnosed Prediabetic 3 months ago, i've stopped having them, can you please let me know if I can have them? if so quantity ? Thank you all.

Imo with coffee it depends on what coffee you have . Strangely I much prefer instant coffee and alway have my morning coffee with cream.
Grapes sadly are little sugar bombs , I love them too but have cut them out even tough I am on insulin and could inject for them.

Look for the carbohydrate content in the crackers

@Ljc thanks for your response, the coffee I use is Nestcafe Decaff Instant coffee with semi skimmed milk no sugar. Ref Grapes I was told same thing little bombs hence stopped having them.

Your only prediabetic, truth is you could maybe handle a few grapes etc, if you can afford to self fund a BG monitor and strips then I'd suggest you do as you may be giving things up when in fact you don't need to as your BG may be able to handle just a few etc xx

2 of the flavours are only 4. something g of carb each, the other 2 are a tiddly bit more. None are a huge amount each. Like absolutely everything, Salvador - the real question is how many of them/how much of it, do you usually eat in one go?

A whole packet of thins, a whole bunch of grapes, 6 cups of coffee?

Be honest with yourself is the key - but hey it could be worse, you might have been addicted to eating whole blocks of Turron or huge blocks of Cadbury's chocolate!

Each Ryvita thin is around 5g carb, plus whatever you have with it. I don't believe there's anything wrong with coffee but research suggests that caffeine reduces insulin sensitivity, which is why I use decaffeinated. I ditched my regular lattes on account of the milk content.

Martin
Thanks

@Kaylz Yes you are correct, I already had the Monitor in mind, my son advised me likewise, am getting one next week as I'll need to get an appt with my GP next week, I can get the strips via our NHS prescription and being a retired pensioner we are exempt from payments. Thanks for your help.

Your lucky then as you would not automatically get them in the UK.

@Salvador, I notice that when you describe what you eat and drink it all seems to be Low Fat.

Most of us who are doing Low Carb are actually embracing the traditional fats e.g full fat hard cheese rather than cottage cheese, coffee with cream or even double cream instead of with milk. Skimmed milk contains more carbs than does cream though less calories because of taking out the (healthy) fat.
Many people find that by having coffee with cream in the morning means that they don't need to eat breakfast and so don't eat until Lunch or even Dinner time.

@trophywench I only have 4 Ryvita Light with either flora light or cottage cheese, 1 month without a coffee and no grapes, I used to have 2 or 3 coffees and maybe Grapes 500g both per week. Regarding your Spanish Turron I have never eat them, I don't like the looks of it but definately yes to the good old British Nougat and a Cadbury's Wholenut never a big block though. lolol, unfortunately both out of bounce for me. Thank you for help.

@ianf0ster I entirely agree with you, yes I keep to low carbs, low fat, no sugar, I avoid fats cause I still got to lose weight 25 kgs approx, even though my bloods are ok and normal, I still have to take meds for BP and Cholesterol as I have been doing for the past 30yrs and now my sugar control. Thanks very much for your valuable Info.
