My daughter had her biopsy today for coeliacs under general anaesthetic. She was so good and so brave. I was concerned about her being nil-by-mouth but they placed her first on the list and we headed down just after 9am, she was back in my arms by 10am.
Managed to keep BG's between 6 and 8 until she felt like eating again, so pleased that aspect went smoothly.

Consultant had a chat with me afterwards to report he is sure she has it, from what he had seen, but biopsy will take a good week to come back and confirm same. I expected this as I phoned a few weeks back to see what levels her anti-bodies had been and was told 300+ with a normal range of (I think) 12-18 😱 Plus in just the last 2-3 weeks she has had tummy aches every evening.

Any-hoo, over the past few weeks in the lead up have trialled a couple of meals of her fave pasta but gluten free and surprised with good results. (I like being prepared and didn't want to have to face any sudden drastic change).

A new learning curve for us but will tackle head on 😉

what a brave little girl you have !!!!

I know there is nothing I can say to make any negativity go away, but knowledge is power and clearly she has a very loving and supportive mum 🙂🙂

sending you lots of {{hugs}}

Sending you both a hug. Glad everything went ok though and the gluten free pasta went down ok.

Sorry about the diagnosis, but at least you will know how to treat it. Better than being in the dark and having to guess. Did she get a bravery award?

Glad it all went smoothly, and I'm sure with such a brave little girl and a great Mum she will soon adapt to a gluten free diet 🙂. No more tummy aches!

Hope you get more support from medical team, dieticians etc through the diagnosis and changes. Assuming that she has coeliac disease, while it's not good to have another problem to cope with, it's better to know and adapt to lessen tummy aches.

You are both very brave. Big hugs with getting everything sorted out

Thank u all for your kind words 🙂

Sorry to hear it looks like your daughter has coeliac disease, glad it's been diagnosed though so that you can get the treatment and advice you need. Hope you and your daughter are both doing ok.

Thanks, I agree, since I've learnt it can damage the small intestine and absorption of food which would then complicate her blood glucose control and cause other related problems like anaemia and osteoporosis.

My concern for her is thinking ahead for parties etc and her not feeling excluded. But I am researching this and putting away ideas.

I've also been advised to think about getting my "IBS" checked out too, but all in good time.
