Relationship to Diabetes

I joined this forum just over a week ago. Having this delightfull condition for around 8 years, and although i tried to manage it nothing seemed to work, and so i just went back to trying to ignor it.
But the posts i read and questions that i have asked, has put me in control of this condition for the first time, helped me understand that its not just carbs vers insulin. The past 6 days i have woke up to bg in single figures, and although i have woke up to these before, it was the odd day here and there, and i had no idea why.
The very simple things i have got from this forum are:

1) Take my bolus 20-30 mins before food
2) The affects of protine and fats on my bg levels
3) That a lot of diabetics get things right and wrong (got rid of a guilt feeling)

But i think forums and support groups are important because, a piece of coal can not burn and glow on its own, it must be with other pieces, and together they can glow together. The same with this condition, on your own, with no suport, the moral goes down and so the managment follows. This might not be the case for every one, but for me this sums it up.
So a big thanks to you all for your questions and answers and for your support.
I just wish i had of joined this a long time ago.

Ill second that!!

That's really good to hear megga, I'm glad you have found the forum so helpful 🙂

Great news Megga!

Thanks for being part of the forum and making it what it is 🙂

Aw! It warmed me cockles just reading that.....

I think you're right. I knew precious few diabetics before I found this group and it's so nice to hear that other people have often the same thoughts and stresses and emotive ups and down as me.

Hi megga,

I'll second that too!

I was diagnosed in 1992 and so wished there was something like this back then. Even now it always seems that HCP's, DSN's.....don't have enough time to go through/teach us everything. At least with this fabulous, friendly forum it's always here for us 🙂.

This forum is a big help and is there day and night. It is well moderated too, a big thanks to our admin and moderators for all of their storling efforts keeping this a friendly family forum too.

I completely agree.

I would never have pushed for the insulin or understood how it work properly without being on here.

Thanks guys. I'm much more controlled now 🙂

This forum has been wonderful. I cannot thank people enough. I was absolutely dumbfounded by my diagnosis in September and all the confusing information. I know I have asked some "silly" questions but everyone has been kind and helpful and no one has made me feel stupid. I don't know anyone with diabetes except on this forum. My family are supportive but like me know very little about diabetes as I am the first in our family. I have not found the GP and nurse very helpful, but everyone here has been amazing and this forum has been a lifeline. I will always be grateful that I found it and for all the help that I have had. 🙂
