cinnamon - should this happen?

Okay so I tried some hot water with cinnamon powder earlier, hoping it'd bring my sugar down.
I've been using it a lot lately in stuff, but not really payed attention or particularly done it for this reason.. except this time i did.
Now i'm 2mmol above what I was before the drink...and it has been a while since i've eaten!
How is this logical? I'd expect no difference at least, not for it to go up!!!
 
I must admit, I can't think why it would affect your levels :confused: Perhaps it's a late spike from earlier food or just your levels creeping up because your basal isn't quite keeping pace with your liver.

I have only heard about this recently from a friend and don't think its something I would want to try - it doesn't sound very appealing to me! I thought it meant that having cinamon regularly (and in suprisingly large amounts) was shown to improve control rather than act to bring sugar levels down. I think this is an American study and is not recommended in the UK
 
I take cinnammon tablets. Difficult to say what if any difference they've made as I only started a couple of weeks ago. Chromium is also supposed to be good for reducing blood sugars.
 
I would strongly recommend relying on insulin, any other prescribed meds, regular exercise and a sensible (ish) diet to control BG.

Any suplements are likely to be unpredictable at best. If they were as effective as some articles claim, they would be far cheaper for the NHS than current medications.🙂

Over the years since I was diagnosed I've seen many reports from people on cinnamon/cassia. The one thing I can say for sure is that it can have totally different effects in different people. I wrote more about it here: Cinnamon, Spices, Herbs and Similar

Personally, I use it to flavour my food and occasionally my coffee. It has no discernible affect on my BGs.
