Hello everyone

I am newly diagnosed with pre-diabetes, like many other newbies have been feeling confused by so much conflicting advice. Have been looking online for a recipe for a suitable Christmas Cake, if there is such a thing, - does anyone have any tried and trusted recipes they could recommend, preferably one that would suit the whole family. Thanks in advance.

Hi Alison! Welcome to the forum 🙂

There are substitutes and swaps that can be made in baking, to try to make cakes a little healthier: https://www.diabetes.org.uk/guide-t...eople-with-diabetes/home-baking-and-diabetes1
For example using vegetables for moisture or fruits for sweetness rather than sugar.
You could experiment with different fruit cake recipes. We have one which uses some of these methods to make it a healthier cake: https://www.diabetes.org.uk/guide-to-diabetes/recipes/rich-fruit-cake or you could check out our 'Recipes' board for more inspiration from members of the forum. 🙂

You can also just opt for simple solutions, such as having a smaller portion or a slice of cake, without the marzipan and icing. See tips for healthier Christmas

But also, a treat every now and then is ok and a slice of Christmas cake over the festive season is not going to have a huge impact on your BG levels in the grand scheme of things. The important thing is that you are staying healthy overall. Hopefully other members will have some more useful tips and insight too 🙂
