I've been looking for your weaning pouches, Copepod, but can only find ones that have small amounts of carb - certainly not enough to bring me up quickly. Which brand / generic do you buy?
Look for pouches with banana or mango.

@Robin do you only but the tubes or do you but the pouch bags too only asking as I noticed tesco now have 30% less sugar fruit pastilles and wasn't aware how many people know xx

I only buy the tubes. Will have to keep an eye out for changes to sugar content, thanks for the warning, Kaylz. I guess it could happen to anything we use for our hypo treatments, we all need to be vigilant.

Dextrose tablets for me. Got packets everywhere ! and also keep a small bottle of full fat fizzy pop in the car.

Just caught the tail end with someone from Tesco who was saying they aim to reduce sugar and fat in their own brand products.

These weren't their own brand ones but I guess most companys will follow, just going to have to pay close attention to new packs bought x

I thought I would mention, I did not hear the whole interview as I had been hanging towels out on the washing line, but I did here Sainsburys mentioned. I know I have read that some Choclate manufacturers were reducing sugar content too I can't remember which. This is the problem with manufactured goods they can change and tweek, not always enough to flag as a new recipe.

I will have a google of it later and see if I can find anything out, would be a good idea to keep everyone updated if we spot something that has reduced the sugar content 🙂 x

This is a good idea. With the sugar tax coming in to play, we all need to be aware that our hypo treatments will probably contain less sugar which means more is needed.

I use lucozade but now I'm considering swapping to regular coke in the short term until the sugar is reduced in that, too. I can't stomach the dextrose gels and stuff as to me it tastes like what I imagine wallpaper paste tastes like

I use orange flavour Dextro tabs when out, and keep fruit Pastilles for home, mainly because I don't want to look like a sweet guzzling old fart in public. People are always a bit suspicious of men of a certain age carrying sweeties, anyway. 🙄

Sorry but this seriously made me LOL haha x

I just got let down by Tunnock's. I got a 6.2 with a downward arrow on the Libre, so I thought I would forestall the impending drop with a Snowball. I've now got 4.2. Go figure🙄

but there's no way I want to be crunching my way through a barley sugar when I'm hypo lol x
This made me laugh, I could 'see' you crunching away. Barley Sugars are so old-fashioned, my Mum got me some to cheer me up after I'd been to the dentist! 😱

What's wrong with green jelly babies? 🙂

I have a couple of squares of Thorntons Butter tablet as it is about the same carb value as jelly babies, 78g per 100g and is suitable for vegetarians - which I am. It is so disgustingly sweet I really don't want to eat any more than a couple of pieces which I keep in a small bag for those special occasions- it works for me 🙂
I have never heard of them but I have found vegetarian jelly babies in the free from section in Sainsburys, must get some because I hate dextrose tablets which I used today for a hypo.

Any sweets will do me, but I prefer jelly sweets over boiled sweets for hypo treatment and keeping fueled during sport. Fruit puree pouches (intended for weaning toddlers) are also good - taste OK and contain about 9 to 20g in each pouch of 80g or 100g.
I might try fruit puree pouches, used to love them. Do they work fast enough?

There's always Veggie Percy Pigs from Marks & Sparks. I get them occasionally but a bit too tempting for me though. 🙄

I'm allergic to citric acid, which means virtually all hypo treatments are unsuitable for me. I get GSF-syrup mint gel on prescription as it's the only glucose (gel or tablet) the hospital dietician could find which didn't contain any. I use that when I'm out or when hypo is particularly bad, but most of the time I use pure grape juice. I also have a packet of glucose powder in the cupboard, in case I run out of other things!

I was told by DSN when first diagnosed that boiled sweets are not suitable for hypos as they take too long to eat - I would have thought barley sugars would be the same.

I use Jelly Babies especially at night as they are easily and quickly digested, if in the mornings I am low a chocolate digestive or two with my mug of tea sets me up.
