Am I understanding correctly? Do you mean that you can only reduce your total chol with diet by 10% so say I was 5.. I could only get down to 4.5 without help of a statin no matter what I ate? I’m genuinely not questioning you, I just did not know this.

No I didn't say you could 'only get down with a statin', that's just the quickest and easiest route and all the RCTs suggest statins are 'safe and well tolerated'. Dietary Cholesterol generally isn't used by the body and is removed by Lipids called Chylomicrons. Restriction of Dietary Cholesterol ( sat fats and eggs etc)was just about the only measure available in the old days at the time of Ancel Keys. But Statins have transformed the landscape of heart attacks and heart disease since the 1990s and been a huge boon in controlling the consequences of Diabetes.
