Oops meant to say, if you have a foot problem try to get a referral to the NHS podiatrists, they are brilliant.

Thanks Lin.

I don't particularly have any feet problems as such just dry skin really just want to prevent issues, so thought it may be worth seeing a specialist on a regular basis

Hello @Veenorthants, I use the NHS Podiatrist for both feet care and my feet review. The feet care is done every 8 weeks the review is every 3 months. I have to pay for the care the Podiatrist cuts my toe nails and checks my feet for any dry skin and thoroughly goes over them. The review is a more substantial test which you may have already had, free on the NHS.

Whether private or NHS you need to see a podiatrist as they are far better qualified. Thirty years ago chiropodists were OK for nail cutting and dry skin. One in our area had done their training via a correspondence school. Podiatrists can also check circulation, advise on infections, do limited prescribing, etc. Of someone says they are a chiropodist these days walk the other way!

They are overlapping terms for the same thing. Chiropodist is the old fashioned word which is gradually phasing out, and is sometimes used to refer to the routine work a podiatrist carries out. All modern training is undertaken under the banner of podiatry.
