Hi, please can anybody advise me on roughly how many carbs would be in just 6 or 7 chips from either a chinese or Indian please? I have got the carbs and cals app on my phone

What does the carbs and cals say? There's no point having it if you're not using it even as a guide x

Myfitnesspal gives 10 chips as15g of carb, so 6-7 would be about 10g. Enough for a unit of insulin for me.
Are those chippy chips though Robin? Tend to be very large don’t they?

The guidance we were given on DAFNE was that an egg sized potato is 10g carbs. Not easy to imagine how many chips that would make, but I am fairly sure it wouldn’t be many. Then again Chinese or Indian chips are not something I have or would ever try to be honest!

Surely you should weigh them and work it out from there. I have a carbohydrate estimation chart on my fridge.

I don't know, and it didn't give a weight. I was just having a quick look, as Gill didn't seem to realise that there was enough carb in a few chips to be worth counting, whereas I always find they are deceptively carby!

Upbete has sections where they have foods listed and under vegetables they have 5 medium chips with a weight of 35g as 11g carbs, add on the noodles in the soup and the chicken curry all in bolused for and I'm not really surprised that you were in the 20's this morning x

I always used to use the ‘egg sized potato’ rule of thumb. Can be tricky with chips (and other potato styles) after cooking though, because loss of water can reduce apparent volume and concentrate the carbs. Jacket spuds and roasties are particularly tricky.

Good to hear that others are suggesting 6 chips approx 10g - I had that stored in my head from somewhere!

6 chips always used to be a joke in our house after my grandma asked for it once.

The old carbohydrate exchanges gave the egg sized potato as 10g CHO or 5-6 chips. i.e. if you're on 1:10 ratios then 6 chips would be 1 unit. Type 1 diabetes is not and never will be an exact science (there are too many variables at play) these are all rough averages and there is going to be a difference between chips from different places. I rarely have them from the chippy but when I do I tend to find the fat slows down the carb release a lot more (sometimes it can be hours) than say oven chips I make at home.
