I think you're absolutely right, even though no meds I would rather have a portion of nice young freshly picked broad beans than a spoonful of rice or a potato, a piece of nice crusty bread rather than a biscuit.
Yes that is similar.... it's like spending your "carb allowance" rather than insulin on something worthwhile and being selective about it rather than just blowing it on anything. I quite like mushy peas but not enough to warrant spending my insulin on it! I will say that I had a big bowl of microwaved broccoli with sour cream and chive dip on it (bolus free) an hour before my fish and chips so I had my veggies that evening but just not with the chippy meal
