Tonight I had a large fish in breadcrumbs and a large carton of mushy peas I didn’t do my finger prick before but 2 hours after it is 8.8 can this be right? I expected it to be much higher

The fat from frying slows down the absorption of the batter, so I usually get good blood sugars with the chippy too. Most of the carbs would be in the chips which it sounds like you didn’t have.

Sounds good to me , but it could be the fat content slowing absorption down as @Lucyr said .
I suggest another experiment lol , test before then at two and three hours after , that should catch the spike , if indeed their is one . Hopefully you’ll find your BGs like that meal .

The fish would be between 40 and 50 carbs no idea about the peas as can't stand squashed peas.
The protein in the fish would slow down the BG hike and if you think about it your result is meaningless as you have no idea what your BG was before you started the meal 🙂

The main thing is you enjoyed your meal which is no1 on my list for priorities 🙂

Mushy peas are approx 16.9g per 100g. That’s if they are proper mushy peas i.e. dried marrowfat peas soaked overnight in bicarb and then boiled until they go mushy. Not the squashed frozen peas that many restaurants pass off as “mushy peas” much to my annoyance. I love the proper ones and made them myself lots of times in the past (pre D)

Now you have made me want Macho Peas as in Nandos, I tried to make myself but all I can say is they needed work.

I have battered fish shop cod once a week and no bad rises at all . I used to cut the batter away but now eat that too. Just avoid more than a couple of the chips off hubby's plate.
