Chinese takeaway question

My usual from the chinese takeaway is chicken & sweetcorn soup / chicken or prawn fried rice / curry saice. I like to savour it, whilst watching tv & make my chinese last all evening ie 1900pm - 2230pm or thereabouts. Taking into account what bs levels are when testing before the chinese / before i start to eat, when would you do your bolus / qa injection?

Seriously have no idea how I would tackle 3 hour eat with regards to QA:confused:

In my opinion, it's something you can't do as a T1 on MDI without going high or low somewhere along the line.

You could either do some bolus up front, eat some, then do the rest of the split bolus after maybe an hour or so. Or keep giving small shots as you go. Or eat all the carby stuff within the first half hour or so after giving your bolus. Or just accept that you'll go high after an hour or 2 and then correct.

But I wouldn't even attempt it. Chinese is a tricky food to deal with anyway due to delayed or instant spikes with different things.

I'd probably attempt it by having 2 or 3 bolus shots at approximately hourly intervals, amounting to total carbohydrate content of meal.

But I'd rather have a curry and rice at one go. I've always preferred Indian to Chinese food since long before diagnosis, so it's not just convenience.

Tricky one injecting small shots over that period of time as bg readings would be meaningless, if anything I would estimate the total carbs for the evening and split the insulin dose in two - injecting before and say 2 hours after, that way if you get full half way through you can cancel or reduce the second dose.

or this

For that very extended eating period I might even consider splitting into three doses 😱

So, how did you get on, Whiskysmum?

Likewise, I'm interested to know how it went.🙂

I could never, ever make any meal last 3.5 hours, but the theory of how to do it could help with something a bit quicker ! :D

I'm intrigued to know, we could all learn something from Whiskymum🙂
