Does anyone know whether you can have too much chia seed? The jar I have says a portion is 15g but I've also read that a handful of chia seed - approx 25g - is a portion. I always sprinkle chia seed into soup but I've never measured how much I put in.

I really doubt you can "overdose" when within the boundaries of a sprinkle. Although they do swell a lot so make sure you've got enough fluid coming through too if taken without the soup

Last time tried them had upset stomach, maybe overdid things as didn't weigh them, just go easy & stick to RDA.

Apparently there is no RDA for chia seeds, but it appears that you can have up to 50 grams daily. Presumably best if it's not all in one go, though.

I usually eat about 50g over the course of a day.

Slightly off topic, but i hear flaxseeds can be iffy if you have too many (esp if milled eg for a seed bread)

As I understand it the recommended amount is 1 to 3 tablespoons per day. I have 2 per day with breakfast. I think they can cause weight gain if too many eaten.

Just measured a tablespoon's worth and it came to 13g. What I've started doing is putting my bowl of soup on a scale, zeroing it and then sprinkling until it gets to 25g but I could just put 2 tablespoons in I suppose.

I use a measuring spoon, in a set so it's easy to do one or two as I'd overload a normal spoon lol

I usually put a level teaspoon in my soup. Job done.
