Chelsea Buns

My wife's made some Chelsea buns. They look and smell wonderful, but just look at this:-

Once upon a time I would grab one to have with a cuppa, and maybe another sometime later.

And no, I haven't been tempted to give myself a treat.......

It is quite shocking how many carbs are in items that other people think nothing of consuming, as did we, pre diagnosis.

Why not cut one into quarters and have it a little at a time as a treat..... shame to waste your wife's lovely baking. I very occasionally do this with a hot cross bun and have a quarter a day over 4 days, keeping the other pieces wrapped in cling film. You really learn to savour the flavour of that little morsel of spicy loveliness.
 
I wouldn't say I "think nothing" of eating a chelsea bun but it would be rude to ignore the amazing aroma when I last baked some. I just dosed up on insulin and enjoyed freshly baked sugary, cinnamonly heaven.
Not every day. Just once in a blue moon as a treat.
 
But before diagnosis, you would have thought nothing of it though wouldn't you....I know I had no idea how many carbs were in particular foods.... unless you have been diabetic all your life, in which case probably not.
Of course most type 2s don't have the option of injecting insulin to cover it.
 
How about researching lower carb options?
I have artificial sweetener that can be baked, and ground almonds and coconut flour, wheat gluten, psyllium husk and suchlike in order to be able to substitute them for higher carb ingredients.

I wouldn't have known how many carbs there were in a Chelsea bun but I would be aware that they were a sugary treat. And, yes, as a Type 1, I have the "luxury" of being able to take insulin.
 
A moment on the lips, a lifetime on the hips!!

Never been all that fond of them TBH. For ever, gimme an eclair instead please.
