Hi
Iam new to twitter and iam hoping someone may be able to share their experiences on claiming PIP.
I have charcot foot i have just been turned down for PIP on the grounds I am able to get around unaided and have no issues on standing and walking.
They obviously don't know what Carcot foot is.

Hi @Gazza1968 and welcome to the forum. I'm tagging @Flower as I know she has Charcot foot but don't know if she will be able to help re PIP claim. (Hope you don't mind me tagging you Flower! x)

Hello @Gazza1968 ,

It may be helpful to contact our helpline on our website. Give us a call, 0345 123 2399 Mon-Fri 9am-6pm.

Hi @Gazza1968 and welcome

I'm sorry you've been diagnosed with Charcot foot.

Charcot foot is a chronic, high risk complication that can go wrong very quickly and needs constant vigilance. It should hopefully meet the long term requirements of PIP as in- already had it for 3 months, will last for at least 9 months duration or more - as it doesn't go away and your foot/feet remain high risk regardless of if there have been any changes to shape, bone structure etc. Have you got impaired feeling in your feet from neuropathy, have you been advised to avoid standing/ walking for long periods? Have you had any custom made insoles/shoes to protect the vulnerable areas ?

I would contact Citizens Advice for help with an appeal and get written confirmation of how Charcot foot affects you from your podiatrist/diabetes clinic/gp . Charcot foot is thankfully quite a rare complication so it's not something that many people have heard of. It has the ongoing potential to flare up and cause rapid destruction of bones and joints and needs great care and attention.

I wish you well, get advice and letters of support if you haven't already and as above give the Diabetes UK helpline a call.

Welcome to the forum @Gazza1968

Sorry to hear about your diagnosis with charcot foot.

Best of luck with navigating the maze to get your PIP application assessed.
