Changing insulin

Been on Novomix 30 for 10+ years but since intensive care for COVID have been having Hypos at night. GP solution is to change insulin to Humulin I. Transferred yesterday using GP advice (once a day 20 units of new insulin instead of twice daily with old insulin). Result - little sleep with hourly loo visits to pass water. Ferocious thirst. Night reading 28.1, 9:00am 31.3.
Anybody had similar experience? should I adjust new dosage back to twice daily and/or increase dosage significantly?
Need to last until diabetic nurse appointment two days away...………………………….

I have no wish to worry you but with levels like that I think you need to contact your out of hrs gp service ASAP in England it’s 111
If you suddenly start to feel unwell then call an ambulance.

Please don’t try to hold out to speak to your nurse in a couple of days, this is urgent.

I hope you get the right help soon , you must be feeling dreadful with levels like that

So you’ve changed from a mix of basal/bolus to only a basal insulin? That seems a big step. Perhaps you need the option of a bolus insulin too or just less of the Novomix.

I agree with @Ljc that you need to speak to someone ASAP to get advice with levels that high.

Hello Peter your GP wants shooting
Those levels are massively high and the insulin you have been given is a background insulin only where as your other insulin was a mixture of the two.
Humulin_I_patient_booklet.pdf (wiltshirehealthandcare.nhs.uk) You need to ring 111 urgently before you become more unwell than you already are.

Post Covid mega highs should not be dealt with using an intermediate insulin! Aaaargghh. Please please get help ASAP.
