I ran out of the Bergen soya/linseed bread today and had to make do with Warburtons wholemeal/seeded - haven't had it before and noticed the slices we're slightly bigger. I always worry when I have something different...

However, this afternoon for lunch I had a slice with a scrape of butter and a poached egg. I didn't test beforehand because I only had 1 strip left (new supply from Ebay haven't turned up yet) but waited to test after 1hr. Was pleasantly suprised with a 5.2. 🙂

Don't know if its anything to do with the injection I had yesterday re: pnuemonia...

I've had this one before Amanda, and the Hovis one. They're both okay for me too. I think the slices are a little bigger but they seem a bit less dense. Makes a nice change as I sometimes get bored with Bergen. To be honest I don't actually like Bergen that much. 😱 XXXXX

You may be like me Amanda in that I think our IR has improved due to the diet.

I,m finding I am not getting those big spikes anymore and tested with just a slice of Bergen, and only went up 2 or 3 points.

I did some bread testing a little while back and found that I react well to most seeded loaves (especially the ones I make in my trusty bread maker ... which reminds me ... I'd better get one in for tomorrow morning).

The only bread which 'spiked' me (I use the term lightly because I consider a spike to be anything above 8) was white. Nasty horrid stuff!!

Andy 🙂

Hi Slipper; I've noticed my sugars have been lower recently - I had a pre-test of 4.2 🙂 - although I did have an 10+ this week but I know why - I ate a little too much pasta 🙄; I went from 7.4 after 1hr and then shot up to 10.4 in 2hrs and then back down to 8.4 after 3hrs. scared me silly...

Had my injection yesterday re: pnuemonia so haven't felt right today - slightly light-headed....:(

How did you get on with your lasagne a week or so ago.....

4.2 is brilliant, all due to your hard work. The pasta is a real exception. I find the wholemeal twists not too bad but white is a no no for me.

Hope you feel better soon

Bread was/is my downfall Andy. I did all sorts of baking trying to find one that wasn't too much of a problem, and seeded was definitely better. But I gave up in the end and stuck to 1 slice of Bergen in the morning with an egg.

Recently however, things have improved, and I found that I could eat my 1 slice of Bergen, without the egg. Maybe it was the weight loss and a reduction in IR. My big spikes have reduced substantially too with other food, but has introduced temptation😱. I must keep my low carb diet for a while longer.🙂

I got on very well thanks (but didn't test, so don't know any better! It's not the sort of thing I want to know the results for .... but I just don't have it often.) 🙂

If you're one of those lucky people whose diabetes symptoms are down to insulin resistance (like I was) the weight loss will go a long way to allowing you a little flexibility in what you can eat.

My morning brekkie of porridge with nutmeg, honey and banana (plus orange juice) regularly leaves me in the mid 4's after two hours! 🙂

But you're right. It can lead to a certain amount of temptation!! I've learned that lesson once already when I put on 1.5 stone a little while ago. I've since lost 1st of that again though.

Andy 🙂

That breakfast - are you sure you're still diabetic Andy? :D

I know precisely what you mean! I think it's a morning thing, though. If I ate something similar later in the day, I'm pretty sure that my levels would be higher at 2hrs. I feel another test coming on (just as soon as I've tested out whether I can get my next pot of strips on prescription!).

Andy 🙂
