Change of address, have to fill in medical again!

I just thought I'd share this with you guys as it's news to me.

I have a 3 year restricted licence due to T1, no complications, full hypo awareness etc. Recently I moved house and sent my license off to the DVLA to change the address, they've had it for a month and today I find out they've decided that I have to resubmit a Diab1 form to get my license back, even though my license was valid for another 12 months!

Needless to say I am absolutely livid, especially as I'm due to go on a driving holiday abroad in 3 weeks and it's taken them a month to even get the forms in the post to me. I don't know if DVLA policy is to make diabetics resubmit Diab1 forms at every turn, or if someone has just decided they fancy making me jump through hoops, but it seems remarkably unfair.

Well that does seem a bit extreme, but there again you could be madly hypoing everywhere since you last completed to say you weren't, so I spose they just take the opportunity to check up.

You need to ask them why, as your licence is valid for another year.
I moved house told DVLA they sent a nice letter back saying my photo licence needed renewing so to get a new mug shot and send it in then I could have my licence back.
I had something like 8 mths left on the licence before renewal. There was no question at all regarding having to send in a new medical form.

Reading these and other posts , it is becoming increasingly clear, that DVLA seem to make it up as they go along. The constant need to recomplete and resubmit information that they already hold is of course Admin job creation and maintenance. Also as they have already been done once for selling our info to third parties , who is to say they are not simpling updating for their clients.???
Seriously,It is i beleive as Northerner puts forward, that is that many of the forms etc that they use do not fit naturally into a online format. And where you have a part Mandrolic,part online system you often have severe anomolies.
The human touch it would appear at DVLA is non existant, that is why you get to speak to a call centre person and can never speak to a "medical expert" decision maker( probably because it is a machine !!!)

Maybe we should gather together a goodly selection of diabetics (type1&2) and their Consultants,GP's and Specialist nurses, hire a coach and go for a days seminar with DVLA's "medical experts" I suspectthat would sharpen a few minds in Swansea.
