hey all,

Just a very quick one pls - I'm having CGM fitted for 5 days next week (starting
Monday) and I'm wondering what its like in terms of living with it - does it hurt etc?

thanks 🙂 - here's to sorting out my night-time weirdness!

I had one fitted for five days last summer, absolutely no problem, not pain/soreness/irritation at all.

Felt more in control, especially as you must record all readings in detail, the graphs afterwards were interesting and can point to a few patterns where improvements and adjustments can be made.

Didn't disturb sleep or showering, nor did it hurt when removed. Definitely worthwhile!

No - has a cannula - more or less exactly the same as having an insulin pump!

You do have to test quite frequently to keep it calibrated - they'll explain to you at the hosp what you have to do to keep it happy!

Wil be really interested in how you get on / what you learn and how it feels! Good luck keep us posted withthe results!

I definitely will do - thanks guys - you've put my mind at rest a little. Sorry been MIA, been celebrating our first wedding anniversary this weekend :D

Hope everyone is having a lovely mothers day x

Happy Anniversary and good luck with the monitor

Thank you :-D I'm very blessed and lucky!

So... Am on way home from hospital complete with foreign object sticking out stomach, I know I'm v lucky to have this but seriously it just feels weird!!

Oh it will LOL. But you'll be amazed how quick you get used to it.

Results are back...

I know I should be happy because my results are in and the trends in can see are great... But... Wow I've still got a lot if work to do :-(

Turns out my background is wrong especially at night, had reduced by 2 units before starting CGM but now need to reduce by another two 😱

Breakfast... I think I've seen threads on breakfast but wow my spike is really quite impressive... Tips for good, quick slow releasing low gi would be appreciated... Evidently weetabix and me don't get on! Although my ratio is right because by lunch time I'm ranging between 4-6 generally.

So, once again I'm asking for advice, help and basically encouragement as I have to admit the gravity of just how much I need to test/trial error etc is sinking in.... Pls help 🙂

On a positive albeit v scary note... The hubby and I have decided we do want to try for a baby so this is all pre pregnancy planning now too :D - for those that remember I came close to making a stupid decision before my wedding because of babies and I hope you know that many of you have helped make me realise that diabetes doesn't have to limit my life... Thank you. So yep, that's it... CGM done for now, sit down with dsn in the 11th April and they've said they are happy to have my on CGM again in a month to see how the changes are going so I best get cracking!

Thanks for reading v long post! Xx

Breakfast for me is often a Mullerlight yogurt with just 10g of Grape-Nuts stirred in (yes it's a cereal, but you don't need a lot and it stays crunchy). You could add in a few chopped nuts and/or berries. Weekends I have bacon, egg, tinned toms, mushrooms.

Great to hear that it has been such a help to you! Hopefully now you will really be able to fine tune things and get that HbA1c and control that you need 🙂

I'm afraid I'm no good to ask regarding good breakfasts as I have a single slice of Burgen Soya and Linseed toast every morning. It's quite low GI and I only eat that because I don't want too much in my stomach when going for a run. I have quite a dump from my liver in the mornings, hence needing a massive 8 units for that one 12g carbs slice! Currently, by lunchtime I only need 4 units for four times the carbs! 😱

Well done on taking all that information on board & deciding to work on it!

Breakfast: If I'm in a hurry I have 2 buttered ryvita with a slice of ham and a lump of cheddar. At weekends 2 poached or boiled eggs and 2 slices Burgen Soya & Linseed toast.
