Great resource here for diabetics!
Have picked up on the low carb thread, and first step was to replace my breakfast cereal with greek yoghurt + berries.
My concern is that I will be missing out on the vitamin & mineral supplements, especially vitamin D.
With our current sunny summer, probably vit D OK for now but may be a problem in the winter.

Any advice would be appreciated

Hello JePh, and welcome to the forum. If you're eating full fat Greek yogurt, it should have vitamin D naturally in it, Vit D is contained in dairy fat, I think.
Edit. Just had a quick google, apparently it depends on the time of year as to how much Vit D there is in milk fat.

…. and what the cows were eating before being milked. The same applies to butter and it's always been said that butter from grass fed cows was the best to eat - however - with all this heat and dryness, there aren't very many grass fed cows around just now on this septic isle.

Do you have regular blood tests then, since you know you are deficient? If so, why don't you take a supplement?

I'm having Yeovalley full fat greek yoghurt atm, so I've emailed them, asking about vitamin D content as it isn't listed in their nutrition details. I'm guessing that's because their aim is to provide a natural product with no additives. In winter cows will be eating grass with less sun exposure, so there will be less vit D in the grass.

Some sources of Vit D:
Oily fish such as salmon, tuna, mackerel.
Beef liver, eggs, cheese.
Almond milk that has been fortified with Vit D.
For breakfast you could try omelette/scambled eggs with cheese or salmon flakes or smoked salmon.

Winter silage is usually also made of grass plus eg kale, however since neither is growing enough to feed them now, let alone cut any for the winter - dairy and beef farmers have used up a lot of next winter's silage already, if not 100% of it. I can se higher prices in the shops and less of it anyway.

I just have the usual HbA1c tests so don't know my vit D levels. I checked with YeoValley & the Greek Yoghurt I have for breakfast has 0.1 migrogram vitamin D per 100mg so that's less than 1% of RDA.

I have been taking fizzy vitamins recently - as my appetite is so low in the hot weather, and I do feel better for it - I have even lost the ache in my left lower leg which has been there for over a year, so plan to continue with them on a fairly regular basis - as the number of tablets is not in sync with my shopping expeditions I don't bother with them every day.
