Thanks ditto definetly never get over it we just learn to cope with it better as time passes. As my OH said to me 5 years ago I'd not dream of doing anything like this or if I did I'd just say I'm fine or lie and tell them I'm alright x
Eleanor Rigby face. I wear it often. 😉

Hi Steff

CBT has helped me in a variety of ways. I used to improve my performance in sport, when grieving over the deaths of my father and my brother, and also in managing issues at work. Now I am about to join a groups session to help with managing the stress I am putting myself under with the diabetes, which I am pretty wary of. It will see how it goes and post any useful strategies that come out of it.

It's been said to me that one of the things I'll be having to help me out and that's been written on my care plan is cognative behavioural therapy has anyone had it and what's your experience with it please?

Ps I know this isn't diabetes related although one of the things I discussed with my therapist was the thoughts of oding on insulin so guess it has in a way.

Hi Steff im going through it at the moment it works like a course

I had CBT to try to help me cope with the stress and sleep-deprivation caused by my neighbour keeping on playing the piano when I was trying to sleep (I need to sleep during the morning because of my illness, so she wasn't being too unreasonable, just not very understanding).

The lady I saw only knew how to deal with people suffering from anxiety (worrying about things which might never happen) rather than stress (having to cope with something which is already happening), and didn't seem to be able to see the difference, so I didn't find it very helpful. I also found her materials very basic and obvious. She was very nice though, and obviously wanted to help, there just wasn't really anything she could do.

It's certainly worth a try - if it doesn't help you don't have to keep on with it, and if nothing else, it's someone to talk things through with.

Thanks guys
Had an initial appt today with a young guy went very well hoping I can be seen by them at my local surgery but he will be speaking to the psychotherapist first..BPD was mentioned but not necessarily my diagnosis yet

Sometimes just having the time and opportunity to open up to somebody who takes the time to listen and understand is therapy in itself. CBT is essentially just teaching us to think about things differently.

(I'm amazed Sammi was offered it for bi-polar...not suitable therapy for that condition.)

Really hope it helps Steff. Best wishes x

Yeah that's what I said to him when he said what are you hoping to get out of this to which I said someone to chat to who's neutral and knows nothing about me and can judge me fairly x.
Thank you @Amigo

Whether or not the diagnosis is BPD, CBT will help. Indeed, it is particularly helpful in preventing relapses in BPD, though in that condition it is almost always used in combination with medication. BPD is at the psychosis end of the diagnostic spectrum, hence the need for medication, as opposed to neuroses like anxiety and reactive depression, which respond well to CBT.

For what it's worth, I think it's unlikely you do have BPD, because that is usually diagnosed in a hospital setting during a manic phase.

I wish you all the best with your CBT journey, Steff. The key is that trust is established, but when it works, it's almost like magic.

Thanks Mike nice of you . I am getting a medication review which may include a change in my anti ds and the introduction of anti histemines to help me with sleep issues.

Glad the first appointment went well Steff.
