As some of you may know, my libre sensor comes to an end tomorrow and to make the most of it, I did an experiment yesterday and went for a carvery.

Based on my learnings about how fat and meat slows down the absorption of carbs you've eaten, I thought I'd be brave and try this theory out.

Got my plate filled with; a few slices of ham, 2 large Yorkshires, large piece of cauliflower, peas, large portion of stuffing, 4 small roast potatoes, gravy and a splash of mint sauce.

So I finished my plate, waited....waited and waited some more, almost an hour past and then there was an upward movement on the blood glucose graph, then I took my bolus insulin for the carbs. This worked really well, with no spikes or dips and 5 hours later my blood sugar was where it was pre-meal.

I shall go forward on this basis for other meals with fried foods etc next stop.....fish and chips!

Has anyone any tips for bolusing for fish and chips?

I have tried a variety of strategies for Fish and Chips!! My most successful is don’t eat it.
I have no will power, when faced with this.

I have found some places do grilled fish with no batter, so we get that and one small portion of chips. I then try to make sure I dose correctly for my count of chips. Better than batter but rarely works successfully. Still doesn’t stop me a couple of times a year, sat on the beach, watching the sun set.

The problem for me with fish and chips, is that the portion size is normally much bigger than what I'd normally eat at one sitting, so if I have a whole one I take so long to digest it that I’m in trouble with my bolus later. I’ve found what works for me is sharing a portion with my daughter, or having the fish and pinching a few chips of OH's plate if it’s just the two of us. Then, a normal bolus seems to work to cover it.

For a moment there, I was more interested in your "watching the sun set" than eating fish and chips LOL!

Oh I would love to do another fish, chip and mushy peas experiment soon :D

Then it’s the mushy peas that linger with their carb release to mess up accurate dosing, from experience.
