The first load of tests were because I had some weird symptoms and they checked tons of stuff to see what was going on - that's how I ended up with a diabetes diagnosis because they checked for that along with everything else.

Same here, I’d been dismissing everything as side effects of being v ill, but the family insisted on calling the Drs when I kept conking out every time I stood up. He popped in, stabbed me as part of the once over, and I was 16 something

My advice based only on my personal journey is test test test... Yes I know the NHS do not provide you with a test kit regardless of every newsfeed picture that shows a finger being pricked... But . If you insist then your doctor or diabetic nurse will give you a meter and will have a start of 10 strips and lancets... Then buy more on line... And... Yes some can do 40 or 50 or 70 or 80 carbs.... And as a newbie when I came on here and wanted pure simple guidance.. Whilst more helpful than many sites.... My wading in the mire became more a tip toe.... Because this pain in the butt condition is really different for each and everyone .. I am 64 I always been fit even only 4 years ago I was scrambling mountains playing squash swimming 3 times a week... And this condition and health probs knock me down... But.... I tried 40 50 80 100 carbs per day as I was reading posters doing that... Even my latest posts that I came back for only this week for more advice for came down to carbs per day and growing own veg lol... But now... 6 months on.. Thanks to testing I know what is realistic for me... Am not saying everyone else is wrong... But... Some folk have got to that amount of carbs as a result of condition but some of us need more carbs to continue living as we were... Huge difference...
My advice for what it is worth... Is get a test kit.. Test test test before meals just after 2 hours after, etc try not to eat processed junk type foods .. Eat healthy, balanced meals... In line within your environmental style of living. I am a canine nutritionist and my first question to a new client after asking dog's name is... Tell me the dog's routine environment feeding and excersising routine...
Good luck . It a climb up a steep hill to start with... But you will get there xx

I am pre-diabetic at present. Got back to normal but went back up. I reckon I have between 60 and 100 per day. Try to get most of it from veg and salad. keep away from pasta, rice, bread and potatoes apart from the flaxseed bread, 3 seeded bread and poppy seed bread I make myself which I got from the diet doctor site. Try not to have chocs, biscuits, cakes, desserts too much. GP suggested maximum of 120 grams per day for me but I suppose it depends on the person.
