Hi All.
I?ve been reading some of the threads of this forum, which have caused me to re-examine some of the things I do. First up is consumption of carbs. When diagnosed, I decided to base my food consumption on general guidelines for a male of my age, which I understand are 300g for carbs, and 55g for protein. per day. Nowadays, typical consumption is 350g carbs, and 65 to 100g protein. Fats are about right.
I see from some of the threads, that a number of people are on quite a bit less than this.
For about the last 16 months, my weight has been in the range of 70 to 75kg, and as a friend put it, I have the profile of a racing snake, so I must be doing something right. Triglycerides and other things are inside the advised limits, but HDL is 0.95.
I intend speaking to the Dr or diabetic dietitian about this, but I am interested in what other people do.
Mike.

I probably eat less carbs than when I was diagnosed, purely because I no longer 'graze' and snack like I used to - things like biscuits, or more likely crisps have virtually disappeared from my daily menu. My weight doesn't fluctuate much, although I do have about 10 pounds I'd like to lose but it just won't shift! I'm actually 3st 5lbs heavier than I was at diagnosis, although I was very underweight then.

A rough estimate puts me between about 170-230 carbs per day, doesn't vary much whatever meals I have since I always seem to need almost exactly the same amounts of insulin! Must admit, I am sometimes surprised when I read of people having a single meal with 150-180g carbs in it!

p.s. had to convert my weight - I am currently 73.5 kg and 5ft 9in.

When I was first diagnoised it was the time where you had two injectiongs a day and a strict carb count per meal and per snack which they started me on 210g just under the RDA of 230g for females but this was way to much for me I couldn't eat that much per days, so within a couple of weeks this was reduced down to a more palletable 130g...

Now our days with a more the flexable regimes, I adverage out to be around 100-150g per days sometimes less..

I actually don't really look at ensuring that I have xxx amout/percentage of fat or protein within the diet, but do allow for fat as in how I get my pump to deliver an insulin dose, and protein to determin an insulin allowance for it...

Before diabetes I was a nice 9 1/2 stone which for a 5'4 female sat very nicely indeed.. Since being diabetic I have struggled maintaining my weight I have a great struggle maintaining and keeping my weight between 8-8 1/2 stone my consultant descibed me as being extremely slender but my friends just refer to me as the skinny bitch😡

When I say struggle, I do mean as in keeping weight on and not keeping it off!

If what you are doing is working, maintianing good control and a healthy weight then it's right for you...

I now average around 250g carbs per day and that is still quite high in comparison with some on the forum.

Re: HDL, I think that I'm similar to you, but despite exercising regularly and eating plenty of oily fish it made absolutely no difference whatsoever to my level. When I asked the consultant about that, he just said "Genetics"!

So, I'm not going to get exercised about it any more (but I will keep exercising!).

Andy 🙂

I wouldn't know where to star with fat, protein and so on, but going off the last 8 days my average carb intake is 102.6g a day. Or in old school lingo just over 10 lines. Nearly everything I eat counts but I just don't eat much.

Average is around 150g a day, but I'm one of those Northie mentioned who can eat that in a single meal every so often 😱

I'm just Mr. greedy :D

I think about 200-250g/day but do have meals around 130g sometimes.

Breakfast is fixed at around 70g for ease. Don't need to make taxing decisions first thing in the morning 🙄

Lunch is main meal and anywhere between abotu 60-130g.

Tea is usually around 60-100g.

Just depends on how things are. No idea on protein/fat but good variety of food ensures I get all I need and probably too much of some things.

Rob

Now I'm feeling like Mr Greedy
I spread the intake as 100g breakfast and 100g for lunch. I aim for 100g for tea, but it is anything between 100 and 150g, usually nearer the 100. Normal snacking accounts for 25g, more as the need arises. Normally 100g of this is fruit, and about 20g raw veg.
