I know people might say just pay the cost but when your short on cash your short!

My DSN suggested buying the app or book but at the moment can’t.

Are there any alternatives to help with carb counting?

You could ask your DSN for a copy. We got given one when we did the Dose Adjustment for Normal Eating course. However I now rarely use mine except when out and trying something that I am not familiar with.
At home I weigh the foods and claulcate the carbs using th info from any packaging or google.

Yes Google can be quite helpful - just enter "nutritional information of xxx" and see what comes up. Be careful that you find out what portion size it's talking about though!

Try a notebook and pen - easy convenient and the battery is never flat...
Watch out for sites which spell fibre as fiber as they are US based and add it in. The UK sites don't include fibre in the carb count.
I have always worked in percentages, so no matter what the amount, it is easy to calculate.
Kitchen scales which can be returned to zero 'tared' it is sometimes called, are really useful.

try your local library, they may have a copy you can borrow, for free.
