Can anyone give me any advice where I can find out - beans are protein and are carbs but you are supposed to deduct the fibre ratio to find out what insulin dosage you need.

For instant I made a vegetable soup for lunch and I put in frozen fresh bean seeds from runner beans , flageolets etc. but my bg after lunch was 12.6 which surprised me. The beans were not dried bean seeds.

In the UK - all Carbohydrate numbers on tins and packets, have already had the Fibre element removed and listed completely separately.

The book and App for 'carbs & Cals' and the Collins @gem' books, ditto.

In America the carb value INCLUDES Fibre which one would have to deduct before - in my case - calculating my insulin for it.

Most of Europe does the same as the UK. USUALLY that is.

If you have a horrendous quite unexpected BG result (higher or lower) after eating something of 'unknown' origin, then suspect that it's incorrect and only eat it again bearing the previous result in mind.

But - that should be a rare event.
 
Thanks Jenny but I meant fresh veg from the garden that I freeze for winter use, I will look into Collins @gem books for some more information.

Have a look on line as well jusme, just google nutritional value of what ever it is you want to know.
 
Tricky really for fresh, as say with a runner bean, you eat the pod as well as the bean, so the nutritional value of the runner bean includes the pod. Ditto the mange-tout pea.

However - the pea ! They are around 10g per 100g weight and broad beans are 11g per 100g.

I should think if you allow 10-12g per 100g you'd be about right?
