Carb intake curiousity

Just wondering what others daily carb intake was, and how many grams per meal, for breakfast I generally have around 27g, lunch is around 36g and dinner is usually around 26g, I would love to increase this amount but with the problems I'm having at the moment I cant :( x
Roughly 70-100g per day, but if I hypo then it goes up significantly 🙂 I'm thinking of lowering it, but one step at a time.

Breakfast: 10-15g
Lunch: 20-30g
Dinner: 30g
Snacks: 10-20g

Do you think you can add 10g to your dinner to start with? One meal at a time for a few days, then you'll gain confidence. Sorry, I know this is a really big step for you and you will have considered this very obvious suggestion and I appreciate it isn't as easy for you as "just have some more". From your test results you seem to have your insulin carb ratios sorted, so I don't think you would see any major differences. We all have surprise results from time to time from food, but they generally sort themselves very quickly or we adjust...no harm done, it's how we learn.🙂

I just really don't have the confidence :( and I'm not convinced my ratios are correct either :( also I struggle to come up with things to eat, like how much fat is ok to have will it just cause a high later etc etc, like what if I want a chicken mayo sandwich and greek yoghurt with some raspberries or something, first how many carbs are in raspberries as google gives a different answer to supermarket websites, is there too much fat in the mayo and the yoghurt that will do some damage blah blah blah, sorry I don't mean to go on and be a total downer on everyone :( x

Absolutely no need to apologise Kaylz! However, the only way to find out is to try...I'm sure you're sick of people telling you this...I've been type 1 since 1978 when I was 11 and I'm still constantly learning and trying new things, we all are. 🙂 X (hope this sounds encouraging....not bossy?)

Kaylz I know it's difficult but sometimes I find that overthinking things gives the diabetes more control over me than I want it to and I take a break from the rigidity and just eat a sensible diet and correct later if my guess was wrong. Otherwise I do risk returning to the downward spiral of binge eating which I have had in the past.
If you fancy some raspberries, remember this is for life now so eat them!

I know I'm being stupid but its a thing I cant get myself out of at the moment, trying to eat things that don't have much sugar in, trying to add up meals to a certain amount of carbs blah blah, I'm really not enjoying life at the moment, I don't have room to make a mistake with my tea though as I've been advised against correcting before bed unless I'm going to have a snack which defeats the purpose of a correction, I'm sure I'll get there in the end and be confident like you guys are x

It's a big thing @Kaylz, you have to take things at your own pace 🙂 One day I'm sure everything will 'click' and you'll feel a lot more relaxed about things 🙂

I sure hope so as I miss just being able to eat normal things x

You're not being stupid: your caution is entirely understandable. There really isn't a lot of sugar in raspberries though. Also if you are a tiny bit high when you go to bed it's not the end of the world even if you don't correct til next morning- you will be wiser next time and will have added something else to your menu of choices.
You're doing so well with your numbers, when I think about my numbers when I was in the early stages of diagnosis, and 25 years on your numbers are lower than mine already, perhaps you could cut yourself a bit of slack to allow yourself to experiment a bit.

Well I tried some yoghurt mixed with cocoa after my lunch today and by next pre meal things haven't gone so well :( I feel like I have no options with what to eat :( every time I try to enjoy something it goes wrong, it always looks good 2 hours post then by 4 hours SMACK I'm back to being on a downer! so fed up :( x

it sounds as if your ratio does need adjustment. It is frustrating and can be useful to stick to foods where you are confident of the carb count while you are doing that. You could try the yoghurt again with a reduced dose? You might not want to hear this but I generally find that my levels are only ever in range after 2 hours if I either exercise straight after eating or delay some of the carbs for 2-3 hours.

Hey Kaylz. Please don't look at this as something that's gone wrong, you've learnt something, so that's good!! It is!! Maybe if you fancy yogurt, try it without the added cocoa, or try what Radders says. It's good, don't get downhearted, you're trying new things! 🙂

It would need increased not reduced, they were in range 2 hours after, starting was 6.0, 2 hours post was 6.4 and just after 4 hours later I was up to 7.5 :( x

The cocoa only added 1g carb to it, I don't like plain yoghurt with nothing in it x

Sorry, I thought you meant you were hypo after 4 hours. 7.5 really isn't that bad, only a 1.5 increase. I wouldn't even correct for that.

Yes, I would e fine with that prior to my next meal, in fact I often find myself around that level - it's not a level that is going to cause any damage. It's a shame you had to miss your appointment with Paul as this is something I'm sure he could have reassured you about 🙂 When will you get to see him next?

I didn't correct I took 2.5 units as I usually do for tea which usually keeps me level give or take 0.odd mmol but by bed I was 5.6  so had to have a biscuit x

I've got an appointment booked with him on the 15th 🙂 had a call from him yesterday afternoon to say he'd spoken to my consultant who's agreed to see me sooner so he's sending me an appointment for him for the middle of next month x
