Hi

I am trying to get my diabetes under control now after years of abusing myself. Everyone keeps going on about how good carb counting is but i have no idea how to carb count.

Can anyone shed some light for me or direct me to a website that shows you how

Bournemouth Diabetes & Endocrine Centre have an online course for people with type 1 diabetes at http://www.bdec-e-learning.com/ You have to register, but it's available to anyone.

Firstly, please do speak with your care team (eg DSN) before altering your insulin regieme as they will be able to give you advice specific to you and there is probably lots of help they can give.

Like you describe, I was very out of control with my diabetes for quite some time and it was carb counting that sorted me out so I would recommend it to anyone. i did a course called dafne which was invaluable and a great experience. There are many similar courses, BERTIE is one that springs to mind, and it will vary according to your area but do look into them and see if you can get a referral onto a course by your DSN. All areas should offer some sort of education programme so at the very least you should be able to access a session with a dietician to set you off in the right direction.

There are however often long waiting lists for these courses and the link copeod sent is really good for those new to carb counting.
