I have been on a very low carb diet for 3 years, and i am heartily sick of it!!!!!.. It does work very well, my readings are v good but.....I WANT SOME TOAST....BADLY(drools and slobbers) I just want a little bit more carbs for lunch.
Dear friends....what do you think of carb blockers? tried any? do some work some dont...if so which would you recommend? or are they a load of tosh?

Hi woolstone.

I'm sure we've had these mentioned before on the forum but I can't remember what teh outcome was. I would imagine if they were any good we'd all be on them, so my feeling is that they're either a con or there's some other downside to them.

If they are anything like fat blockers then I think there is probably a major downside (literally 😱). I would say it's better to have a slice of Burgen toast and go fr a good walk afterwards 🙂

Hi Rob,

I have read they have come on a long way in the last few years, and y'know just clutching at straws hoping for a tiny tiny glimpse of 'normal' eating. I truly understand now why some folk say, sod the low carb diet, give me more medication, it is v v hard for a food addict to cope with low carb diet.

I suppose it depends on how much having to adhere to a restrictive diet affects your quality of life and obviously for some people there is no alternative to medication even on zero carbs, as we still need insulin. If your pancreas can't produce enough for you needs then medication is needed. If the diet starts to dominate your thoughts and makes you miserable then maybe it is worth trying some medication.

I'd agree - you have to balance quality of life against your current medication/exercise/diet regime.

I thought the only carb blocker was acarbose? and that has it's own down sides. Or are there others?
