Since friday i have split levemir 12 in the morning 12 at bed time also taking 1500mg metformin instead of 1000mg,got up with 7.8 this morning realy chuffed with that but just tested 1 hour and 30 minutes later 12.5 the culprit is a small glass of semi skimmed milk,i must admit i dident think to take my novorapid for the milk perhaps not a mistake to make again.
Still so much to learn, starting to wonder if i will ever get it right:(

I doubt it's the milk and suspect that you a) need to increase your night dose of levemir to decrease your morning reading (although better than mine at the moment) and b) increase your morning dose to cover the day. I don't really understand why a T2 should be on rapid insulin unless they were on high doses of basal insulin. My GP put me on Victoza instead of rapid insulin and this seems to be working.

It's one of the things I miss now I have diabetes - just being able to have a lovely glass of cold milk without having to think about injecting for it :( Interestingly, before I was diagnosed, but when I had started with 'the thirst' I could get through 20-30 pints of milk a week! Goodness only knows what that must have done to my levels! 😱

It's not hugely carby, but quite fast acting carbs. I'm surprised that you would still be quite high 90 mins after drinking it, so there may also have been an element of glucose from the liver in play.

You'll get there, it is incredibly complex and not always predictable. You might do exactly the same another day and get a different result!

Hi i was started on the byetta first but it made me to ill,was told they only had one more pill they could try but i refused it and went straight f the insulin because i had enough of stuffing pills down my throat that dident work, the dsn and i have just started to adjust my levemir doses to try and get it right for me,i have to report my readings back to her on friday and see where to go from there.

Although the spikes are annoying, our diets are healthier than many others and look at the knowledge we have gained and the friendship we share by being here.
