Can you sweat out a cold?

Over the last few days I have had a cold and its really bugging me now as I have felt unable to exercise due to feeling groggy and being one of the greatest supporters of "man flu" that ever lived.

Hopefully I am on the finishing straight now with a bit of a stuffy nose and just a very slight aching feeling. With this in mind, do you think its a good idea to try and sweat the last bits out in the gym or could this make it worse and set me back a bit?

Really want to get back on track but don't want to do anything which may put me back in bed feeling sorry for myself again! 🙂
 
I've always found that I feel better by wrapping up warm and havign a slow stroll outside in the fresh air. It opens up the nasal passages and gets all the junk inside moving.

Layign in bed can just make you feel miserable and you feel psychologically 'ill' so by getting up and doing stuff you can kid yourself you feel better at least.:D

The upshot is. Get your bum out of bed and stop being mardy !!!! :D🙄

ps. Your BGs will be running high which won't help but, depending on your meds, etc a bit of a brisk walk might bring them down.🙂

I think gym work would be tricky because of the breathing difficulties.

I find a nice hot shower helps, but we are all different and different things work for all of us. I hope you feel better soon.
 
A few years back, I saw an article in an orienteering club newsletter, based on Avoiding Winter Illnesses by Prof Greg Whyte and Dr Richard Budgett which was then available online at www.olympics.org.uk , but apparently, no longer. Whyte & Budgett last page flow diagram is particularly good for deciding how to proceed - if you're not fit to run at full rate or at all, then please stand out of the race.

Our club experienced the death of a young man, just over 40 years, who ran in an orienteering championship with an unresolved cold / infection - and died of a heart attack in the forest.

I'd go for a walk or cycle outdoors, but not run or cycle fast, and not go in gym - where you could also pass your germs to others.
 
I'd say no to the gym too! No one else will appreciate the bugs being passed around. Also heavy breathing will be likely to aggrevate any lung and breathing problems and set you back again. I'd go for a gentle stroll and stop off somewhere for a hot drink and a rest!
 
The PDF is still there and opens OK Copepod 🙂 I was always told in my early running days to avoid any strenuous exercise with a cold or infection as your body already has enough to cope with fighting the virus. It's frustrating, but not worth jeopardising your future health.
