Welcome to the forum @Amo68

So sorry to hear about your diagnosis, and especially that you weren’t told :(

It is clearly very upsetting for you.

I dinkt know much about Hashimoto’s, but I think it is a form of hypothyroidism?

Diabetes is a serious condition, but it’s also one that can usually be managed well with a few changes and adaptations - it’s something that you can learn to live well with, and it shouldn’t stop you doing things you enjoy. Try not to be disheartened about your diagnosis, many people on the forum later reflect that their diagnosis became a catalyst which prompted them to make positive changes towards a healthier and more active life.

Maggie Davey’s letter is often recommended by forum members as a helpful starting point

As is and Gretchen Becker’s book, type 2 diabetes the first year

Ask away with any questions you may have 🙂

Welcome to the forum Amo68 from a fellow T2. I'm sorry you're having such a rough time.

I also have hypothyroid - but I just need to take a supplement, and type two diabetes which is in remission as I eat a low carb diet, which seems to fix it. I was told I had diabetes at the end of 2016, and went low carb at once, was soon back to normal, and feeling a great deal better. Being unable to deal with carbohydrate causes so many problems if you try to follow normal advice about healthy amounts of starches. Not only does it cause problems for your metabolism it can make the world seem a very dismal place.
Maybe assess the amount of carbs you are eating and their sources, and change to lower carb veges, avoid sugary foods and snacks, get your nutrition from proteins and fats instead. If you get a glucose meter (I use a Tee 2 from Spirit Healthcare as it is cheap to run) you can see how you react to various foods and can avoid the spikes in blood glucose after eating.
I hope you can soon see a difference, but your surgery deserves a blast for negligence in not informing you of test results.

Well - both Hashimoto's thyroiditis and diabetes are invisible - so in one way your family are correct. However, both can be treated successfully so don't despair.

How did they test you to prove that you definitely have type 2 diabetes? - I ask you this because Hashimoto's is an auto-immune condition and therefore could mean the diabetes might be type 1 - which is more commonly these days diagnosed in older adults as well as children.
