Has anyone ever done so? I'm trying to get my head around Type 2 a little bit at the moment....

Also why don't they put all type 2s on insulin? - just because it's difficult / expensive to be on insulin, or won't it work d/t insulin resistance?

It is far less likely for a Type 2 to get DKA, because the majority are still producing some insulin which means that they are capable of removing poisonous ketones from their blood and using at least some of the glucose in their blood (insulin is needed for both processes). Type 2 is normally due to high insulin resistance, not insulin insufficiency - the pancreas may be producing lots of insulin but not using it efficiently, hence the raised blood sugar levels. In such circumstances, adding more insuiin in the form of injections is not the ideal approach, instead methods (diet and exercise) and medications are used to try and increase insulin sensitivity.

Type 2s can suffer from something called 'HONK' - see

I imagine that a person originally diagnosed T2 but who is no longer producing insulin at all is as prone to DKA as a Type 1.
