Hi everyone. I would like to learn to carb count ( my dietician says i will in about 5 months, but i want to learn now ). My problem is how i am going to learn. I think you have to go on a carb counting course, but this is going to be a big problem with me. With my mental health problems i cannot mix with people. I can cope with things on a one to one basis but i would never in a million years be able to attend group meetings, i am too afraid of people. Does anyone know if there are any books available that could teach me to carb count, or any other way i would be able to learn.

hey casey im sure some of the carb counters will come and point you in the right direction xx good luck

There is a great site which covers this and would be worth a look. I will try to find you the link in a minute, but have a feeling if you search for BDEC and carbohydrate counting, you will find it without too much trouble. I tried this for a while before I actually got on my course and although I didnt carb count properly (use ratios etc) at the time, it meant that by the time I got on a course, I understood more of what they meant when they calculated CHO content etc, and I found that even just practicing counting in advance was very useful.

That's the one. I thought it was great.

You might find it useful to get a carb counting book as a guide. Many people use Colins Gem Carb Counter, available in all good high street book shops or from online places like Amazon. Check out the local library and see what they have first and read before you buy.
