Anyone running Cambridge half marathon? How is the training going? I don't think I am as prepared this year!

Is nobody running it? Last slightly long run today. Over 10 miles at 9 minute pace. Quite pleased with that. Hope I'm ready!

Good luck for the run. Would love to do it but I live near Hull and I’ve hurt my knee playing too much squash! 🙂

Good luck for the run!! My friend is currently in training for the Manchester marathon. She runs a lot but is finding the prep for a marathon a bit hard going.

I’m currently talking myself in and out of signing up for the Sheffield 10k in September. I would dearly love to run that again, just for the medal but it’s been a long time since I’ve run that far so I don’t know if I’m up to it now. We will see.

I'm now realising that shifting a tonne of wood without a wheelbarrow might not have been ideal preparation for a half marathon.
It might not be a tonne or ton, but difficult to see how to use standard measurements. For example, we seem to use bags of sugar for light things. Next could be double decker buses. Then we move to size of football pitch(es). After that
it's the size of Wales, or indeed, whales. Must be others.

?re d/d buses - only time they're useful is to gauge the height of the pole they're vaulting at eg the Olympics, nowt else for me.

How deep is the mountain, how high is the sea???? (with yer global warming y'know :D )

Good luck with your 1/2 marathon, I did the London Winter Run last weekend, I have previously run, both the London Landmarks and Royal Parks 1/2 marathons, well I say run, I had to walk the last 3 or 4 miles of the Royal Perks 1/2 in Oct as it was that exceptionally hot weekend and despite doing some long runs while on holiday in Spain in the September, which in fairness did do at first light, but the heat just took it out of me. This year I got a ballot place in the Great North Run.

Thank you! Cambridge is deadly flat and easy but cold again. Don't like the cold!

The Register developed a system of units just for this purpose, I'm sure there's one in there that will do the trick

They even have a handy online converter

Best of luck for your run.

Indeed good luck for tomorrow!

Very good 🙂. The only problem with this is that occasionally they refer back to things that people might actually have encountered (walnuts, grapefruit, Olympic swimming pools) - I feel there's a need for some volume unit which is both well know (i.e. people have heard of it) yet never encountered in real life (as otherwise it might be useful).

Something like a Roman amphora, or the cargo volume of a supertanker come to mind (which also reminds me that I do sometimes see the depth of the Titanic used as a "useful" metric in the newspapers/online for ocean depths, which is obviously a perfect unit 🙂). There are some other great ones I see quite often such as distance to the moon or circumference of the Earth around the equator - perfect! 🙂

Didn't mean to do that!
Waking BG of 5.7. Went up to 9.1. 2.5 units of Novorapid, 4 units of Levemir. Breakfast of 1 Weetabix and half a banana.
Cambridge half marathon. Started with BG 7.9.
Mile 7 - 10.9. Finish 5.9. Nothing to eat and nothing to drink.
Time of 1.59.1.

Well done, under 2 hours I am impressed. Hope you are able to have a rest tomorrow.

Little run to loosen up! I rest every day - it's a well developed skill!

congratulations!!! That is extremely well done. I was meant to go watch it but I got caught up. I see a few of my old Cambridge & Coleridge friends in the results list.

I miss running so very jealous of you. keep it up.
