Happy Christmas!
Replaced sensor yesterday morning. Was running the old one til teatime. Switched them over, and new one pretty close to blood test. Left til this morning and it had strayed a bit, so tried to do a calibration. App told me a calibration was in process so to wait 5 mins. All good except I hadn’t done a calibration! The sensor seems to be running ok, though I would like it to be a bit closer to my actual BG level. As a self funder, I don’t see the point unless it is! Any ideas?

It is unlikely to be spot on as they are measuring something different and each device will have permitted range of accuracy 15% I think. What difference are you seeing?
Are you relying on it for dosing insulin, if not then it is likely good enough to see trends.

I understand the differences. I have been using CGMs for over a year now and I have had 2 that failed miserably, the rest are pretty close to by BG reading. My question was not about differences, just that the app was telling me it was calibrating, but I hadn’t entered a calibration. Yes, I have been using insulin for some 25 years now.

Hi @Chelseagirl I use the G7 not One, but if it’s still saying it’s calibrating (ie it’s got stuck on calibrating for ages), have you tried reinstalling the app? Do NOT stop your sensor! Just reinstall the app. Make sure you have any sensor numbers and codes prior to doing this.

Cheers! Will try this. It’s not really a big deal as sensor still working fine, just a bit off. Just made me wonder why it said it was still calibrating, when I hadn’t calibrated it in the first place! Which makes me think it’s the app rather than the sensor too.

This just a hypothesis so take with a pinch of salt, or correct me if I’m wrong.

I have tried calibrating a One+ about 3 times in the last few months, mainly to see how it works, but all I get is a message saying Calibration Ignored. All I could fine online was reference to the reader. If the Dexcom reader is like the Abbott one, it is combined with a blood tester. So my guess is that they trust that device and it isn’t the we are wanting to adjust for appearances.

The Dexcom receiver isn’t a blood tester @barrym It just receives the readings from the sensor rather than/in addition to using a phone.

Doh. Bang goes another theory.

Any idea how the calibration process is intended to work?

It’s intended to work without calibration but you can calibrate it to a finger prick if you want. It’s in the settings.

I appreciate that, but I just want to know how to do it. I can’t find anything that looks relevant in the Android app. I see The data entry type for finger stick result, or one for calibration. If I enter that it just records the number then shows a note against the entry stating it was ignored. Could that possibly that the difference was out of an adjustment range, or that the readings were moving too quickly for it to be reliable. I can understand that this would be sensible.

Can you tell me exactly what you see in settings?

Excellent, thanks. I can't understand why I didn't find that. Hmm

It worked! Now able to calibrate and it’s spot on now!
