Just read an article that states drinking caffeine not only gives you a 'fight or flight' effect due to hormones which include adrenaline , cortisol and dopamine but this cocktail raises your blood glucose levels .

It suggests drinking green tea instead which has less caffeine.

I'd heard this too. I avoid coffee most of the time as I can't drink it without sugar and something like coffee mate in it...

Anything that increases stress hormones generally raises blood glucose levels, partly because they switch on the liver's release of extra glucose to supplement the energy requirements of 'fight or flight'. It doesn't have to jsut be 'bad' stress of course - excitement can also raise levels! 🙂

I have tried green tea and really dislike it I'm afraid! 😱

I've attributed a couple of unusual readings to testing when I've drunk caffeine containing coffee. These days I have switched to decaff instead when I want a tea.

I also switched to Rooibos for a decaffeinated tea. The green tea with lemon that was suggested by Andy HB is much more tolerable then plain green tea.

I dont touch hot drinks, but I have recently tryed lemon tea as suggested by a member in here and that is nice well its ok lol.

I suppose I notice it more since i'm not on medication but I stopped drinking tea about 2years ago. I switched to green tea and I swear by it 🙂 Mind you I cannot drink it plain bleugh normally I go for Twinnings Green tea w/ mint/lemon/cranberry/mange

I am a sucker for a starbucks though :/

I maybe have about 4 cups of coffee a day, so far no effect on the BG, but maybe as my consumption is consistent my bodies response to the caffeine is now much less than would be if it was not expected...........

Everyone is different I suppose..........🙂

To be honest I haven't noticed any effect of drinking tea on my sugar levels. If you want to try an alternative to green tea, try Jasmine - it is a green tea so low in caffine but tastes much better in my opinion - smells lovely too and very refreshing.

I like green tea but wont but Twinnings now as they have been bought out by a company that is transferring it to Poland and they had the cheek to make the staff here in the UK train them up before making them redundant !!.

Now I am aware that coffee and tea does that to my BG I will be aware when taking my BG's.

Peppermint, is my cup of tea 🙂

Perhaps strange, but I find that instant coffee screws my system up much worse than real coffee and that 'ordinary' tea is much worse than either type of coffee

It could be that because you are doing the same thing each day you have built this into how much you need to inject. Do you have days when you don't drink any coffee - it might be interesting to see what happens on those days.
