I've just heard that someone I know has c19 o_O and I was in a car with them last Friday!

Have they actually been tested? Tests on self isolated people and mild symptoms aren't actually being tested so unless they have there is no saying that is actually what they have, it could just be a common cold, the flu, don't panic, you would've been on a contact list if they had tested positive so unless your information has come from that line then just look after yourself as best you can xx

The message I got says they're "... self isolating as we have the virus." I don't know about them having been tested.

self isolaters aren't being tested, it could quite easily be that one has a symptom so they all have to follow suit, remember there are coughs and colds going round all year round, we cant spend the rest of our lives worrying that it "might" be something else, unless you start to develop symptoms then just go about as you have been recently xx

Someone I know of has symptoms and is self isolating someone who regularly works alongside him has no symptoms. So unless tested could be a cold or something other than C19

I think this is a significant challenge - especially for healthcare and other frontline workers. People may have to repeatedly self-isolate over coming months, because with no tests they won’t know that they actually HAD C19 the first time around, recovered from it, and are now immune!

I wish they'd sort out a test, I'm convinced we've all had it but how would we know!?

As it is such a new virus , I am suprised they have tests for it at all. Reading between the lines of what the US scientists have said some of the tests were not reliable. They were even suggesting that WHO ones were not reliable.

If you haven’t been tested you can’t know you've got it, and the symptoms in most people are remarkably similar to colds and all the other viruses that are always going around. You still have to self isolate if you might have it, but I don’t think people should be telling others that they have got it if they don’t know for sure, some people are terrified enough as it is :(

It's bad enough that UK Gov is not testing unless the patient need hospitalisation, even if they're known (like Idris Elba) to have had contact with somebody who tested +ve for it. But in my view it is much worse that the same applies to NHS front line staff and their households.
Lack of testing means no tracing of contacts for those with mild/moderate symptoms - not just who are asymptomatic. This means that the 'official diagnosed cases' is kept artificially low (even China wasn't doing that at this stage) and the fatality rate is kept artificially high - thus scaring the daylights out of some. Plus all of this contributes to lack of trust which encourages the doubters to keep on partying and saying 'its only the 'flu!
