Relationship to Diabetes
Type 2
Hi, I'm Rich. I was diagnosed T2 12 years ago at the age of 32 but unusually this followed a DKA. I buried my head in the sand for 10 years but started dealing with it 2 years ago. 14 months ago my hba1c was 89. I got it down to 54 and now it is 61.3 weeks ago I suffered a vitreous haemorrhage. I take 3 different tablets (no insulin). I've left it way too late for this not to affect me but now trying hard to stop any more complications...

Welcome to the forum Rich @rah78

Glad to hear you were able to turn your diabetes around over the past couple of years - you can’t change the past, but try not to give yourself a hard time about it. What you can influence is what happens now, and try to build on your recent successes to stabilise any changes to your eyes, and hopefully slow any progress.

DKA must have been pretty grim. Did they check for antibodies or run a cPeptide check to see of you might be T1 or LADA rather than T2?

Do you have to be pretty careful to eat the right amount of carbs to match your meds? Do you have a BG meter to see how you react to different meals?

Sorry to hear of your plight. The Vitreous Haemorage is easily treated by yor local Opthalmology Dept if it doen' go away by itself.
