I went to my local Tesco store for Burgen bread and, for the last two weeks, they have not had any. I asked about it today and have been told it has been discontinued.

Has anyone else come across this? Did have a word with the Manager and he did say he would look into it and see about getting it again.

In the meantime, seems like I could get it from Sainsburys or Asda.

Sometimes I find it very hard to get Burgen. It has currently disappeared from our Morrisons, and although I have occasionally found it in our small Sainsbury or Nisa, it seems to have gone from them too.

Whenever it does turn up we buy several loaves because of this. We also have Hovis Nimble and Waitrose's LivLife in the freezer, and recently tried a Tesco High Protein loaf which I think is 10 carbs per slice. It's ok if a little cardboardy.

Don’t have a Tesco close to us, apart from a small Metro one. No sign of Burgen disappearing here though.

I guess each store only has so much room for products, and has to stock the ones that generally sell to the people who visit the store - especially things with a short shelf life like bread.

Same thing happened here as well
We are away next week and if its still missing when I come back I will enquire and " play the diabetes card"

I was told Tesco don't stock it. Sainsbury's do and Iceland..

It’s still advertised online in Sainsbury, Iceland and Tesco. I wouldn’t eat it because of the industrially produced emulsifying and gluten strengthening ingredients they have to use to make it resemble bread. (Those are the E numbers on the ingredient list). And it uses the dreaded palm oil, too, an ingredient I assiduously try to avoid in an effort to save tropical forests. I know the say it is sustainable, but that only encourages others to cash in.

It’s only for speed of production they use all that c**p, I could make Burgen bread with all their real ingredients. It would just take a long kneading, and a long proving, which is anathema to industrial bread producers.

Rant over, just go online if you must.:D

I can’t stand the stuff.

Agree, Lilian. Soya affects the absorption of synthetic thyroid hormone medication. Given the apparent popularity of this synthetic bread on this forum, that’s a fact that should be better broadcast.

It doesn’t have any effect on the thyroid function of normal folk.

Not good for anyone with a thyroid problem because it is made with Soya.

Didn’t realise that Lilian. Seems there are more and more products which include soya these days, including plant-based milks and dairy options.

Thanks. Did not realise Iceland sell it. Will have a look there. My hubby likes it. I eat it occasionally but enjoy making my own from the dietdoctor.com site. Like making the flaxseed, three seeded and poppy seed bread.

Yes, I went last week and couldn’t find it, I was told they had stopped selling it. Asda sell it and Sainsbury’s which is fine if you have one of those close by. They have stopped it before and then started to sell it again, maybe we need to write to their HO and asked why. It’s was a bit of a nuisance as then had to drive to Asda, in future I’ll just do all my shopping in Asda, so they’ve lost one customer.

It is probably a good idea to tell them as they will not want to lose customers. I spoke to the Manager and explained some diabetic patients like it as it is lower carb. He said he would look into it and get it bit back in if he could. Always good idea to say when unhappy about something.

I think I saw it in the co op today I’ve not tried it yet but think I might grab some next time I’m in there and give it a go

I’ve only ever bought it in Asda to be honest. It’s a shame that it is proving hard to get hold of. There have been some weeks where it has been sold out so we often buy an extra for the freezer.
