Update on my naughty morning bs and the test the lovely consultant has asked me to run

Sunday 35g of porridge with skimmed milk - 2 hrs after 7.1 (waking bs 5.0)
Monday (today) 1 piece of wholemeal with 1 scrambled egg (drop of milk) - 2 hrs after 7.3 (waking bs 5.3)
I eont be having any of my normal cereals anymore 😱

Because consultant said to reduce morn carbs and have more protein my sis has suggested a protein drink in the morning - has anyone tried these ? I have looked on a website were sis buys protein for her training and they have one which is high in protein and very low in carbs and fat - no added sugar.

Would this work instead of eating loads of eggs ? I have emailed the website and explained my situation to them and am awaiting a reply.

Think I'd rather stick with the eggs, for one it will be more filling, natural and less expensive🙂

Think I'd be inclined to stick with the eggs too as they can be scrambled, poached, boiled and fried so you get a bit of variety.

2 slices of wholemeal 8.8 2 hrs after (BS 5.1 this morn) - really struggled to eat the toast this morn - dry cardboard like - Yuck

I'm really worried about fat in take with eating to much egg or sausage / bacon as consultant suggested. I know there are other things I can have

The company I email has suggested a product which has

Per 30g:
Energy: 111.0Kcal
Energy: 472.0KJ
Protein (dry basis): 27.9g
Protein (as-is): 27.7g
Fat: 0.3g
Carbohydrates: 0.2g
Calcium: 120.0mg
Cholesterol: 0.6mg

Mix it with 150-250 milk or water - I would use water.

I'm only talking about having this 2 to 3 times a week. (in the morning only)

Another vote for eggs - and don't forget, ducks in your garden eat slugs & snails, and produce rich waste for compost, as well as laying eggs 🙂 Virtually no fat if you poach eggs.

It's the saturated fat intake that you have to watch.

If eggs and bacon worry you because of the saturated fat levels (20-30%) then have you considered something like Quorn? Quorn is very bland by itself, but usually they sell varieties that are spiced and flavoured.

Perhaps revisit Alan S's Breakfast thread posted to you three months ago when this issue first arose ...

I will thanks mcdonagh.

I'm just in the process of trying different breakfasts which do not include cereals - they need to be quick and easy for me as I only have an hour to get ready before work - need my sleep he he he or am I a lazy bum!

hopefully I will nail it soon

Thanks
Di

PS Mark hubby has suggested other Quorn like products and veggie bacon etc - gonna check them out when we visit the supermarket at weekend - would have done it this weekend but I felt so ill when shopping I abandoned it

I tried poached ducks eggs once and found them hard to eat - just kept thinking poor little duckie lol. Funny I dont have the same problem with chicken eggs x

The FSA revised the advice on eggs and dietary cholesterol and seemed to say eggs are fine to eat above the previous recommendation of three a week. Go for quality sausages with a pork content of 90%, they have less fat and contain fewer carbs due to very little fillers being added. Bacon you should look for lean versions and leave the streaky well alone.

I only purchase meat from my local farm - not sure there sausage is 90% meat - very very nice tho :D will definitely have to ask them at the weekend

Thanks for the tips

When I had gestational diabetes they recommended protein, I don't eat eggs (except in cakes etc) so I used to have cottage cheese, which is as easy as yoghurt but much lower in fats and virtually no carbs. Just another suggestion

I often have fish for breakfast. Kippers, sardines on toast, mackerel pate on toast. I make my own pate and add horseradish.

Unfortunately me and fish are not very good friends - keep trying various and I just cant eat it - shame i know ( I wont go into detail as to what it does to me when I try it)

Are you worried about the size of the egg relative to the duck? If so, don't - most egg laying ducks are bigger than egg laying hens. It's only humans that evolved to give birth to something too big for their pelvises. 🙂 Chickens are better egg producers, but not so good at consuming slugs and snails (pests), more keen on worms, which are advantageous to the garden.

My dad would get kippers sent over from the Isle of Man, stunk the house out for days much to my mothers annoyance:D
