Diagnosed type 2 two weeks ago but really struggling with breakfast ideas. I’m doing Slimmingworld having lost 9lb in the last fortnight.I’ve been having 1 small slice of wholemeal bread with eggs or Stute marmalade but would like ideas that don’t involve bread please. I’m trying to keep carbs really low ( below 100) a day. Thanks for any help

Many of us have full fat Greek yoghurt with berries and seeds or nuts or with a small portion 15g of a low sugar cereal like granola or All Bran for the crunch.
Having some protein with your small slice of toast will help reduce the impact of the carbs in the bread but there are some lower carb breads in the supermarket which some can tolerate.
If you have a blood glucose monitor then you could see if the bread was OK for you.
Your weight loss is fantastic, have you got a tailored regime to take account of your diagnosis, as SW can be qiute high is carbs for many to tolerate without making some substitutions for the high carb foods included.

Thankyou for reply. I’m using nutracheck to track carbs ,sugar etc. I also have Menieres Disease so also have to have very low salt and am caffeine free.I’ve greatly reduced carbs as yes on slimmingworld I was eating a lot .I have a bg monitor and noticed an increase of 2 after eating a slice (from 8 to 10.2).will look at the low carb bread or see how many syns infull fat Greek yoghurt as normally would only have fat free.

Does it have to be full fat ?

Many people find full fat is more satisfying and fills them up better so they do not feel the need to snack between breakfast and lunch other than a drink, it also tastes better. You could try the 5% fat if you don't want to go the whole hog.
I would normally have breakfast at 8.30 and lunch at 1.30 and don't feel hungry in between.

You need to. take a look at the labels on low-fat yoghurt. When they take out the fat they have to substitute stuff to make it palatable, normally carbs! Not so good for our mission.

Thankyou - way too many syns in full fat
But equally some of the slimming world meals which are very few 'syns' would be far too high in carbs for people who were following a low carb regime.
Be careful of the amount of carbohydrates as it is those which convert to glucose not fats and protein.
Some of the meals are going to be fine as long as you keep an eye on the carb content.
It is suggested that to reduce blood glucose no more than 130g per day total carbs is where they need to be but some need to go lower than that.
If you check the carbs in the meals you are having and see where you are in relation to that, it will give you an idea. Better still use a blood glucose monitor to check if you are tolerating them.

That's nonsense.
It might have been true last century, but no one needs to simply eat fat "because it makes it taste better"
That myth has been well and truly dispelled.

I got all the same "eat fat" when I lost weight.
I chose not to diet control my diabetes, I lost weight and reversed it.
Sometimes it's a struggle to get people to accept there are many ways to treat diabetes, and "low carb for life" does get pushed out.
Stick to the way that works for you personally.

My breakfast was fairly consistent.
When I was dieting, it was usually a couple of Ryvita, and a slice of ham, and a slice of edam cheese divided between them.
It worked out around 200 calories.
Many on here also eat porridge, around 15g of carbs in the Ryvita.

Well it isn't a myth - the manufacturers of various things, including yoghurt, had used to do that. However it's also true that in the main, they have stopped doing it.

The message is - as always! - read the FLIPPING LABELS to see what's really in it.

(For what it's worth, personally I always preferred Greek yoghurt made from ewe's milk - more 'tangy' taste - according to the label, but there again I've never seen any evidence of sheep grazing anywhere in Greece ........ plenty of goats though ........ never seen cows myself either ......)

I agree, always read the labels.

But as to whether it's a myth or not, it may have happened last century, but it's certainly a myth now, and unfortunately one that keeps being churned out.

No that ain't true, there's hardly any difference between low fat greek yogurt & full fat when it comes to carb value, have both in fridge as wife uses low fat version.

An increase of 2 does suggest that your body is managing to cope with the carbohydrate in your one slice of bread (if that's with an egg then the fat and protein may also be helping to slow your digestion of the carbohydrates).

The general guidance is to aim for an increase of no more than 3 from a meal. As your weight comes down, and you keep those rises under control, you should see those starting numbers begin to drop under 7 as well, but it may take a while to do that.

I tend to have eggs in some form for breakfast, sometimes just 2 eggs scrambled, but I also often make a "frittata" or "crustless quiche" with vegetables and/or meat, eggs and milk and cut it up into portions - usually that ends up with about 1 egg per portion and about 2-300 calories depending on whether it's just vegetables or if I'm using up some fattier meat like salami. (I'm using carbohydrate levels and calories myself, so have no idea where it would be in terms of SW allowances/syns)

Hiya @Ruthie14. Well done on the weight loss so far - that’s brilliant! 🙂

I have Alpro Plain No Sugar soya yogurt (zero carb) for breakfast. It’s totally tasteless but I make up for that by covering it in walnuts, mixed seeds, some crunchy almond butter and blueberries. I need my breakfast to be as low-carb as possible, so it’s perfect for that reason. 🙂

Eggs used to be "free foods" on Slimming World if I recall correctly (though we are going back 25 years there!) Weekdays I have a 2 egg cheese omelette, low carb and filling. Been on those since diagnosis, I'm amazed I'm not fed up of them.

I can’t eat any of the slimmingworld meals as they are far too high in salt for me. My carbs for last two weeks have been under 100g a day according to nutracheck . Thankyou for replying it’s really helpful

I’m using nutracheck mainly and just keeping an eye on foods that would contain syns. Feel like I’ll look like an egg
